This month held many moments.
Moments of care.
Moments of support.
Moments of strength, joy, and resilience.

And through it all, children continued treatment and families continued showing up every day.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support childhood cancer care in different ways.

Wilms Tumour is one of the most common childhood cancers affecting the kidneys.

And like many childhood cancers, early signs can easily be overlooked at first.

A swollen abdomen, fatigue, fever, abdominal pain, or blood in urine may seem unrelated initially, but recognising symptoms early and seeking medical attention quickly can make a significant difference in treatment outcomes.

This is why awareness matters.
Because early action can save lives.

When people hear “childhood cancer,” they often think only about treatment.
But there is so much more happening around it.

Childhood routines change.
Families adjust everything.
And life begins to revolve around treatment schedules, appointments, and recovery.

This is why support matters beyond the hospital room.
Because childhood cancer affects every part of life.

👁️ KEEP LOOKING OUT FOR “THE GLOW”

As we conclude Retinoblastoma Awareness Week 2026, Lifeline For Childhood Cancer Ghana (LCCG) encourages everyone to remain aware of the early warning signs of childhood eye disease.

A repeated white or golden glow in a child’s eye in photographs may be an important sign that should never be ignored.

Parents and caregivers are often the first to notice these signs.

If you notice unusual reflections or “The Glow” in a child’s eye, please visit the nearest health center immediately for a medical examination.

Awareness does not end today.
Conversations do not end today.
Lives can still be saved through early detection.

Please continue sharing awareness and encouraging others to look out for the glow.

In support of KnowTheGlow.

👁️ LOOK OUT FOR THE EARLY WARNING SIGNS

Retinoblastoma, a childhood eye cancer, can often be detected early if parents and caregivers know what to look for.

A white glow in the eye, unusual reflections in photographs, crossed eyes, or changes in vision should never be ignored.

In this important awareness video, Professor Vera Essuman explains why early detection and prompt medical attention are critical.

If you notice any unusual signs in your child’s eyes, please visit the nearest health center immediately for a medical examination.

Early detection can help save sight and save lives.

A child’s wellbeing is deeply connected to the wellbeing of the family around them.

When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, families often have to navigate emotional stress, financial pressure, disrupted routines, and difficult decisions all at once.

And for many families, existing inequalities make that journey even more difficult.

Today, on the International Day of Families, we recognise the strength of families who continue to show up for their children through challenging circumstances.

THE EYES TELL A STORY

Sometimes, a child’s eyes can reveal signs we may easily overlook.

A white or golden reflection in photos, often called “The Glow,” can be an early warning sign of Retinoblastoma, a childhood eye cancer, or other serious eye conditions.

The eyes may speak before symptoms appear.
Before discomfort is noticed.
Before a diagnosis is made.

That is why paying attention matters.

Parents and caregivers are often the first to notice these signs in photographs.

If you notice a repeated white glow or unusual reflection in a child’s eye, please visit the nearest health center immediately for a medical examination.

Early detection can help save a child’s sight and life.

📸 HAVE YOU SEEN “THE GLOW”?

A white or golden reflection in a child’s eye in photos may seem harmless, but it could be a warning sign of serious eye conditions.

This unusual reflection, often called “The Glow,” is commonly associated with Retinoblastoma, a childhood eye cancer. However, medical experts have identified more than 20 different eye diseases and conditions that can also cause this glow.

Some of these include:
👁️ Cataracts
👁️ Coats’ Disease
👁️ Retinal Detachment
👁️ Congenital Eye Disorders
👁️ Eye Infections
👁️ Persistent Fetal Vasculature

Parents and caregivers are often the first to notice these signs in photographs.

If you notice a repeated white or yellow glow in your child’s eye, please visit the nearest health center immediately for a medical examination.

Early detection can help protect vision and save lives.
