How many sisters are Suffering from Sadness? Feeling Down? Sad all the Time?

Shaikh ’Uthaimīn rahimahullāh Explains the Solution!

“Indeed the Legislation orders us to keep away from everything which causes regret … Allāh سبحانه said:

“Secret counsels (conspiracies) are only from Satan, in order that he may cause grief to the believers. But he cannot harm them in the least, except as Allāh permits.” 🔸[Mujaadilah 58:10]

And Allāh تعالى only told us this so that we keep away from it, it was not merely a piece of information telling us that the Devil wants to cause us grief, no, what is meant is that we keep away from everything which causes grief. And for this reason the Prophet ﷺ said, “When there are three people, two should not converse together to the exclusion of the third.” 🔸[Agreed upon]

So everything which brings about sadness in a person is forbidden …

The Prophet ﷺ ordered a person who saw a dream that he disliked to dry-spit to his left three times and seek Allāh’s Refuge from its evil and the evil of the Devil and to then turn to the other side [to sleep on] and not to tell anyone about it and to perform ablution and pray—all of this so that a person can drive away all of these things [grief etc.] …

And that is why the Companions said that we used to see dreams and become ill because of them, but when the Prophet of Allāh ﷺ told us this hadith … i.e., they relaxed and no worry remained.

So the Legislator wants us to avoid everything which brings about worry, grief, and sadness, and for this reason Allāh تعالى said:

“So whosoever intends to perform Hajj therein then he should not have sexual relations (with his wife), nor commit sin, nor dispute unjustly during the Hajj.” 🔸[Baqarah 2:197]

Because disputes make a person defend himself and his thoughts change for the sake of the argumentation, and he will became worried and it will distract him from worship.

The point is always keep in mind the fact that Allāh عزوجل wants you to be happy all the time, far from grief.

And in reality a person has three situations: a past situation, a present and a future one. A person forgets the past and the worry that it had because it and what it contained is over, if it was a calamity, then say:

اللهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي، وَأَخْلِفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا

“O Allāh, reward me for my affliction and give me something better than it in exchange for it,” 🔸[Muslim] and forget about it.

And for this reason He forbade wailing over the dead, why? Because it renews the grief and reminds one of it.

As for the future, its knowledge is with Allāh عزوجل, rely on Allāh and when issues come to you then seek their solution, but those things which the Legislator has ordered you to prepare for then prepare for them.

It is the present time which it is possible for you to deal with, try to keep away from everything that causes worry, grief and sadness so that you can always be relaxed and have an open breast, dedicating yourself to Allāh and worshipping Him and [dedicating yourself] to your worldly affairs and those connected to the Hereafter.

When you try this, you will relax.

As for tiring yourself over what has passed or worrying about the future in a manner the legislation has not allowed, then know that [if you do so] you will become exhausted and lose out on much good.”

Three people to stay away from

It is reported that ʿAlī b. ʾAbī Ṭālib رضي الله عنه said:

“Do not be with the sinner (fājir), for he will beautify to you the things he does, and he will want you to be like him; and he will beautify to you the worst of his practices; and his entrance upon you and leaving from your company will cause ignominy and discredit [of you].

And do not accompany the fool (aḥmaq), for he will exhaust himself [to help you] but will not benefit you, and he may want to benefit you but end up harming you; his silence is better than his speaking, his distance is better than his closeness, and him dying is better than him living.

And do not accompany the liar, for life will not benefit you with him, he will tell others what you say, and tell you what others say; and if you speak the truth, it will not be believed.”

Shedding tears upon the departure of Ramadān!

"The hearts of the righteous people are filled with longing, lamenting from the pain of departure[of Ramadān].

How can a believer not shed tears upon its [Ramadān] departure when he does not know if he will live to see it again? 💔

O Ramadān! Be gentle, the tears of your lovers are pouring out. Their hearts are torn from the pain of your departure.

❣️Perhaps standing to bid you farewell will extinguish the burning fire of longing.

❣️Perhaps taking a moment to repent will mend everything that has been torn in past.

❣️Perhaps one cut off from the procession of those whose fast has been accepted will be joined with them.

❣️Perhaps the one imprisoned by his sins will be freed.

❣️Perhaps one deserving to be punished in Hell will be liberated.

❣️Perhaps the mercy of the Lord will be granted to the sinner."

O Ramadān! Be gentle, the tears of your lovers are pouring out.

27th Night of Ramadān

Even though Ubayy ibn Ka’b swore by Allāh that Laylatul Qadr is the 27th night of Ramadān, this does not mean we should only focus on the 27th night and neglect the rest of the last nights of Ramadān.

Ubayy ibn Ka’b said:

“By Allāh, I know which night it is. It is the night the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ commanded us to stand in prayer. It is the night of the 27th.”

The Prophet ﷺ also said to seek it in multiple nights:

“Seek it on the 27th, 29th, and 25th nights.”

📒: Sahīh al-Bukhāri (2023)

“Seek it in the last ten nights.”

📒: Sahīh Muslim

So it could have been the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th night.

Strive every night in the last ten nights of Ramadān, and you will undoubtedly catch Laylatul Qadr, إن شاء الله

Laylatul Qadr - A night better than 1000 Months

The Signs of Laylatul-Qadr

Question: What are the signs of Laylatul-Qadr (the night of decree)?

🎓Shakyh Ibn al-‘Uthaymīn رحمه الله :
From amongst the signs of Laylatul-Qadr is that it is a calm night (neither too hot nor too cold)* and the believer’s heart is delighted and at peace with it, and he becomes active in doing good actions, and the sun on the following morning rises clearly without any rays (red and weak)*.

Laylatul Qadr - A night better than 1000 Months

The date of Laylatu’l-Qadr being unknown – “Perhaps that is better for you”: Ibn Kathīr رحمه الله.

Imām al-Bukhāri records in his Sahīh:

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ went out to inform the people about the (date of the) Laylatu’l-Qadr, but a quarrel took place between two of the Muslim men. The Prophet ﷺ said, “I came out to inform you about (the date of) Laylatu’l-Qadr, but so-and-so and so-and-so quarreled, so its knowledge was taken away. And perhaps that is better for you. Search for it in the 7th, the 9th and the 5th (of the last 10 nights of Ramadān).”

🔸al-Bukhāri #49

In his famous book of tafsir, al-hāfidh Abu’l-Fidaa’ Ismaa’eel ibn Kathīr comments on the phrase, ‘perhaps it was better for you‘ by writing:

And his statement, ‘perhaps it is better for you‘ – i.e., the lack of it being specified for you. For since it was left uncertain, those who seek it exert themselves, aspiring for it in all places of the month, hopeful of finding it.

📌So there is an increase in worship, in contrast to if its specific time were known, for then its significance would certainly lead to restricting the night prayers to it exclusively.

And the wisdom of its being left uncertain results in worship being spread throughout the entire month in pursuit of it, and that effort is increased even more so during the last ten nights.
