Africa Network of Youth Policy Experts (AfriNYPE) is a regional network of Youth Policy Experts in Africa. AfriNYPE came alive during First Global Forum on Youth Policies in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2014. Sequel to the Global Forum, African delegates engaged in intensive dialogues and did situation analysis of youth policies in the region, mapping and SWOT analysis followed by concrete document that le
d to the emergence of AfriNYPE. A privileged meeting and deliberations with the UN Envoy on Youth Mr Ahmed Alhendawi and the youthpolicy.org team (one of the partners that convened the Baku Forum) on the AfriNYPE’s mission, objectives and plans for advancing youth policy work in African region led to the announcement of the platform openly at the closing session of the Global Forum. Our Work
AfriNYPE was established to enhance advocacy for youth policy implementations and realisations among African countries by persuading Africa’s UN Member States to renew their commitments regarding implementing youth policies on the continent. The network works also to facilitate knowledge development on youth policies by creating policy brief and fact file about youth policy situations across Africa. It engages in research and youth related policy consulting for state departments in the continent. Before the First Global Forum on Youth Policies, there was no regional network on youth policies known in the African continent. The need to ensure a platform for advancing the cause of youth policies in Africa, coupled with the need to pursue adequate implementation of Baku Commitment to Youth Policies globally led to the birth of our network. AfriNYPE is now fully established in about 45 countries across Africa. Our Objectives
The following objectives serve as bedrock for advancing cause for successful youth policy work in Africa:
i. To scale-up advocacy for youth policy implementation among African countries,
ii. To persuade Africa’s UN Member States to renew their commitments to implementation of youth policies in the continent,
iii. To assess the state of youth policy, its level of implementation and impacts in the lives of African youths,
iv. Develop a common and workable understanding of youth policy in Africa (theory and practice with a set of key indicators),
v. To popularise youth policy among African youths and engage vocal youth NGOs in various thematic areas to support advocacy for its implementations,
vi. To ensure youth policy data base and fact files are developed as reference point for youth policy research in Africa,
