Strengthening the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is crucial in Ghana's fight against corruption. The OSP has made significant strides in investigating and prosecuting corruption cases, but it needs more resources and institutional support to tackle corruption effectively.

Corruption has become endemic in Ghana, and it's imperative that public officers are held accountable for their actions. The OSP's efforts to investigate and prosecute corruption cases must be backed by punitive measures that make corruption unattractive to public officers.

Ghanaians deserve a corruption-free society, and it's time for leaders to take concrete actions to make that a reality.

Social Watch Africa Demands Urgent Action on 2025 WASSCE Crisis

Social Watch Africa expresses deep concern over the alarming failure rates in the 2025 WASSCE results. With Core Mathematics recording only 48.73% passes and Social Studies at 55.82%, Ghana faces an education emergency.

Key Issues:
- Over 114,000 students failed Mathematics.
- Rampant examination malpractice involving teachers and schools.
- Systemic weaknesses in teaching quality and curriculum design.

Our Position:
This is not just an academic issue—it is a national development crisis. The integrity of our education system is under threat, and urgent reforms are needed.

Social Watch Africa Calls for:
- Immediate declaration of an Education Emergency Response.
- Teacher capacity building and curriculum review.
- Deployment of technology to curb malpractice.
- Nationwide remedial programs for core subjects.

We urge government, WAEC, and all stakeholders to act decisively. Failure to address these issues will jeopardize Ghana’s future workforce and socio-economic progress.

Social Watch Africa at Boadua R/C Basic School

Akwatia, Eastern Region – Social Watch Africa’s Students Engagement Initiative (SEI) made a significant visit to the Boadua R/C Basic School in Akwatia, part of the Denkyembour District on Tuesday, 18th November2025. The initiative aims to inspire and educate students about the importance of career choices and the value of every profession.

During the visit, the team engaged with Junior High School (JHS) students to discuss various career paths, emphasizing the importance of respecting all professions, regardless of societal perceptions. Lead Advocate, Kojo Addo took the opportunity to encourage students to recognize the intrinsic value of every job, challenging the notion that some careers are inferior to others.

“Every profession plays a vital role in the fabric of our society, and it is crucial to appreciate and respect the contributions of those in various fields,” Kojo stated. He further provided insights into various career opportunities available to students, motivating them to think broadly about their futures.

In addition to the enlightening discussions, the SoWA also donated essential educational materials to support teaching and learning at the school. This gesture underscores SoWA's commitment to enhancing educational resources and fostering a positive learning environment for students.

The event concluded with a rallying call for students to aspire to their dreams while valuing the paths of others, reinforcing the collective responsibility to uplift every vocation.

Social Watch Africa's team left behind not only educational materials but also a renewed sense of purpose among the students, equipping them with the knowledge and inspiration needed to pursue their chosen careers with respect and enthusiasm.

Condemnation of Recruitment Practices and Sympathy for Bereaved Families

Social Watch Africa extends its heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the recent tragic incident during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium. Our thoughts are with the bereaved families during this profoundly difficult time, and we stand in solidarity with them as they navigate their loss.

The unfortunate events that unfolded, leading to the death of six (6) young and promising lives, are a stark reminder of the need for comprehensive reforms within our recruitment processes. We condemn the current methods employed by the military that prioritize quantity over the safety and dignity of aspiring recruits. Such practices are not only unacceptable but also undermine the principles of respect and honour that should be inherent in any recruitment effort.

In light of this tragedy, we call for a thorough review and overhaul of the recruitment process to ensure it reflects the dignity deserving of all applicants. Recommendations for a more dignified recruitment system include:

1. Implementation of Fair and Transparent Practices: Ensure that recruitment procedures are clearly communicated and fair, allowing all applicants equal opportunity without putting them at unnecessary risk.

2. Health and Safety Protocols: Establish strict health and safety measures during recruitment events to prevent overcrowding and ensure the well-being of all participants.

3. Community-Based Recruitment: Recruitment should be done at constituency levels in order to reduce the large numbers that gather at central points.

As an organization dedicated to youth development and progress in Ghana, Social Watch Africa advocates for a future that prioritizes the safety and dignity of our young people. We urge the appropriate authorities to take immediate action to prevent such tragedies from recurring, ensuring a recruitment process that respects and uplifts the youth of our nation.
