We support social entrepreneurs to build social startups that improve the lives of children & youth

Reach for Change Ghana is a part of the regional non-profit organization, Reach for Change Africa. Reach for Change Africa supports social entrepreneurs who impact the lives of children, youth and women. We partner with corporations, NGOs and other impact investors to run innovation competitions to find and develop strong social entrepreneurs who tackle some of society's most pressing issues. Our accelerators and incubators help them build sustainable social enterprises that scale to create widespread social impact and systemic change. Through outreach campaigns and other activities, Reach for Change Africa builds public awareness of and advocates for social entrepreneurship as a primary tool for Africa's development.

Minagie Energy is tackling energy poverty by providing reliable, clean energy to health centres, schools, farms and underserved communities through its FUSION Wind Turbine. This is a locally manufactured hybrid wind-solar microgrid system.

By expanding access to sustainable power, strengthening climate resilience and creating green jobs for young people through its MTEDI Youth Training Programme, MINAGIE Energy is helping build a more sustainable future for communities across Africa.

While conversations around inclusion and entrepreneurship have grown over the years, research shows that there are still several barriers that continue to affect women-led businesses.

Here are three challenges that consistently emerge across studies on women entrepreneurship:

Access to funding
Access to finance remains one of the most significant barriers for women entrepreneurs. Research from the OECD and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) shows that women-owned businesses often face greater challenges accessing the capital needed to start, sustain and scale their ventures.

Access to networks and mentorship
Studies continue to identify limited access to professional networks, market linkages, mentorship and business support systems as barriers that can affect the growth of women-led businesses.

Balancing business and unpaid care responsibilities
Women continue to carry a disproportionate share of unpaid care and domestic work globally. According to UN Women, this can limit the time and opportunities available to pursue economic and entrepreneurial activities.

Supporting women entrepreneurs isn't just about recognizing these challenges. It's about creating the conditions, opportunities and support systems that enable women-led businesses to thrive.

One of the biggest challenges many NGOs face today is sustainability.

Relying only on donor funding and grants can make long-term impact difficult. This is why many organisations are beginning to explore social entrepreneurship.

Social entrepreneurship allows NGOs to create impact while building sustainable income streams that support their mission.

It helps organisations:
• Build long-term sustainability
• Create jobs and opportunities
• Reduce overdependence on funding
• Expand community impact
• Develop innovative solutions to social problems

The goal is not to replace impact with profit. The goal is to strengthen impact through sustainability and innovation.

At Reach for Change Ghana, we believe organisations that combine purpose with sustainability are better positioned to create lasting change.
