Chiefs,Clergy Endorse New Nzema Bible Translation Project

Chiefs, clergy, language experts and the people of Nzema have unanimously endorsed the New Nzema Bible Translation Project of the Bible Society of Ghana (BSG).
At a stakeholder engagement in Nzemaland, traditional leaders led by Awulae Kwasi Amekyi III, Paramount Chief of Jomoro and President of the Western Nzema Traditional Authority, praised the initiative and called on all stakeholders to support the project.
The General Secretary of BSG, Very Rev. Dr. John Kwesi Addo Jnr, explained that the new translation is necessary because language evolves over time. He noted that the project seeks to provide a faithful, accurate and contemporary Bible that connects with today's Nzema speakers while preserving the richness of the language.
Rev. Dr. Kennedy Kwame Owiredu, Translation Consultant, outlined the rationale and roadmap for the translation, sparking enthusiastic discussions and valuable contributions from participants.
With the full endorsement of chiefs and community members, the Bible Society of Ghana is set to launch the New Nzema Bible Translation Project in early 2027, ensuring that future generations can engage meaningfully with God's Word in their mother tongue.
