๐ŸŒŠ Cape Three Points is more than a coastline, it is a sanctuary for diverse life, livelihoods, and our future. Yet these waters are under threat.

Sustaining Marine Protected Areas means protecting biodiversity, food security, and the livelihoods of communities that depend on the sea. ๐ŸŒ The ocean protects usโ€ฆitโ€™s time we protect it.

๐ŸŒŠ Mark your calendars โ€” 28th April 2026.

WHRO is proud to announce that the Fisheries Without Borders Project will officially launch in Ghana on that day, with the Local Policy Dialogue at the University of Ghana.

This is the moment Nigeria, Ghana, and Benin pull up their chairs at the same table, fishers, scientists, policymakers, women and youth leaders, NGOs, and government agencies, to begin building the cross-border fisheries governance our coastal communities deserve.

Climate change is already reshaping the Gulf of Guinea. The fish are already moving. The communities already feel it.

On 28th April, Ghana responds. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ญ

๐ŸŒŠ WHRO is officially a local partner on Fisheries Without Borders

We are thrilled to join the Department of Marine and Fisheries Sciences, University of Ghana, as Ghanaโ€™s two local partners on this powerful regional project, bringing together Nigeria, Ghana, and Benin to protect the fishing communities and livelihoods along the Gulf of Guinea.

Over the next two years, we will be facilitating national and regional dialogues, training fishing communities in climate-resilient practices and conflict resolution, and building a cross-border knowledge-sharing network that puts fishers, researchers, policymakers, and communities in real conversation with each other.

Funded by the Blue Convergence Fund and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. Led by Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria.

๐Ÿ”ฌ The Science Behind Mangrove Restoration๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฑ

Mangrove restoration is often misunderstood as simply planting trees.

In reality, restoring coastal ecosystems requires a deep understanding of environmental processes and social dynamics of the landscape.

That is why our technical team from the Wildlife and Human Resources Organisation has begun detailed field assessments across project communities in Ada East, Ada West, and Anloga District.

These assessments are examining critical ecological factors including tidal flow and hydrological dynamics, soil salinity and sediment conditions, mangrove species distribution, ecosystem connectivity, and biodiversity presence.

The data collected will guide restoration strategies for 450 hectares of mangrove ecosystems under the IRCC Project, coordinated by ActionAid Ghana, in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity, and UN-Habitat and funded by the Adaptation Fund.

At WHRO Ghana, our approach to conservation is grounded in science, stakeholder collaboration, and active community engagement and participation. Because successful restoration is not measured by the number of trees planted, but by the resilience of ecosystems that thrive for decades to come and communities that protect their natural assets.

Last Thursday, 12 March 2026, Wildlife and Human Resources Organisation (WHRO Ghana) welcomed a technical team from the West Africa Civil Society Institute for a progress review under the Strengthening Capacities of CSOs in the Biodiversity/Conservation Sector Programme.
What started with an institutional assessment and intensive training has evolved into real improvements in our governance, systems, and operations. With continued technical support and funding, WHRO Ghana is strengthening its capacity to deliver lasting impact in biodiversity conservation and community-based natural resource management.
