๐ฌ The Science Behind Mangrove Restoration๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ
Mangrove restoration is often misunderstood as simply planting trees.
In reality, restoring coastal ecosystems requires a deep understanding of environmental processes and social dynamics of the landscape.
That is why our technical team from the Wildlife and Human Resources Organisation has begun detailed field assessments across project communities in Ada East, Ada West, and Anloga District.
These assessments are examining critical ecological factors including tidal flow and hydrological dynamics, soil salinity and sediment conditions, mangrove species distribution, ecosystem connectivity, and biodiversity presence.
The data collected will guide restoration strategies for 450 hectares of mangrove ecosystems under the IRCC Project, coordinated by ActionAid Ghana, in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity, and UN-Habitat and funded by the Adaptation Fund.
At WHRO Ghana, our approach to conservation is grounded in science, stakeholder collaboration, and active community engagement and participation. Because successful restoration is not measured by the number of trees planted, but by the resilience of ecosystems that thrive for decades to come and communities that protect their natural assets.
