Alhamdulillah..
The Maiga Foundation for Change, in partnership with Awaken for Impact Initiative - Ghana and Jil' al Qur'an, successfully hosted the "Muslim Youth Empowerment Conference" today!

The theme centered around Earning decent Livelihood and combating the rising threat of gambling in Ghanaian Muslim Communities.

Venue: National Chief Imam Conference Center, Ghana National Mosque.

The event was chaired by Dr. Haruna Zagoon Sayeed.
We were honored to host dynamic speakers who delivered powerful insights on youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and building dignified sources of income.

Over 150 youth attended, engaged, learned, and connected on how to choose decent sources of income, and purpose over quick gains.

A big thank you to our partners, volunteers, speakers, and every young person who showed up to make this a success.

This is just the beginning, in shaa Allah.

It's never too late to start again!

At 64, John Adesoye is a brand new registered nurse.
And he didn’t do it alone. He did it with his son sitting in the same lecture halls.

Ten years ago, John was fixing wires as an electronics technician. But something kept pulling at him – the urge to fix people instead of machines.

So in 2014, he walked into Southmead Hospital in Bristol as a health care assistant. No degree. No shortcuts. Just grit.
He worked the night shifts. Cardiology. Emergency. ICU. Orthopedics. Anywhere they needed hands that cared.

Then he decided to go further.
One day a week, John went back to school. Not just any school. The University of the West of England.
And here’s the part that will get you: his son Daniel was there too, studying music. Father and son, both chasing degrees.

John grew up in a poor farming family in Nigeria. He later moved to Greece, then to the UK, building a life one job at a time. He never thought university was for “people like him.”

But he proved himself wrong.

“This summer, John graduated with a Nurse Degree Apprenticeship. Today, he’s a registered nurse at the same hospital where he started as an assistant. The same hands that once repaired circuit boards now hold patients through their hardest moments.

His message is simple and it hits hard:

“Don’t listen to people who say you’re too old for university. If I can do it, others can too. People are more brilliant than they think and they’re stronger than they think.”

He’s not stopping either. John already has his eyes on a master’s degree.

From repairing electronics → to repairing lives.
From a farm in Nigeria → to a hospital in Bristol. It doesn't mean farming is inferior. Farming is equally great, so this story is not a comparison b/n career paths but a motivation to tell you that you can too, and age shouldn't stop you!
This is the story of John Adesoye; from “too old” → to “just getting started!
