Building Ghana's Green Entrepreneurship Ecosystem - YoGSEC

We are proud to share highlights from the YoGSEC Validation Workshop, where academics, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and development partners came together to validate Ghana's Green Entrepreneurship following an Ecosystem Gap Analysis. Experts, including Dr. Ayiku Andrews of the University for Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Tieke Bernards and Andrew Addo of Shared Value Ghana Africa, delivered powerful insights, all echoing one message: Ghana has the institutions, the talent, and the entrepreneurial energy to lead Africa's green economy. What is needed now is coordination, commitment, and action.

The gap analysis uncovered three critical barriers holding back green entrepreneurship in Ghana:
1. A financing gap that prevents startups from scaling beyond the pilot stage
2. Technical and institutional capacity gaps that make regulatory compliance costly and inaccessible for early-stage entrepreneurs
3. Policy fragmentation across government ministries that increases the burden on businesses trying to grow.

Despite these challenges, enormous opportunities exist in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, recycling, eco-tourism, and carbon credit markets. One cannot miss the growing interest among Ghana's youth.

This workshop marks not an ending but a beginning. Our next steps focus on translating research into a clear action roadmap, establishing a first-of-its-kind ecosystem coordination platform in Ghana, developing financial instruments tailored to green businesses, and strengthening collaboration between universities, industry, and government.

The transition to a green and circular economy in Ghana presents a powerful opportunity to create decent jobs for young people while building environmental resilience. Yet, the ecosystem still faces critical gaps, including limited access to finance, technical support, and coordinated policy action.

Join us for this important validation workshop as we engage stakeholders on an ecosystem gap analysis and a five-year strategic roadmap for the Young Green and Sustainability Entrepreneurs Consortium (YoGSEC).

Together, we are shaping a stronger, more inclusive future for green entrepreneurship in Ghana.

PRESS RELEASE

The Young Green and Sustainability Entrepreneurs Consortium (YoGSEC), under the Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND), is calling for the urgent integration of skills-based, digital, and sustainability-driven entrepreneurship education into Ghana’s JHS and SHS curriculum.

Drawing from years of direct engagement with over 100 young green entrepreneurs across the country, this call is grounded in lived experience — young people thrive when given practical tools, real-world exposure, and ecosystem support.

We believe entrepreneurship education must move beyond theory and grades to hands-on learning that equips students with 21st-century skills, digital competence, and sustainability values from an early stage.

This is a national opportunity to prepare future job creators, innovators, and changemakers.
