Free Training for solar companies

AGSI is collaborating with USAID West Africa Energy Program to organize a training for members focused on, “Business Acceleration, Successful Tendering, Procurement, Financing of Projects, and Market Access for Off-grid Solar.” on Wednesday, January 10 and Thursday, January 11, 2023.
The Government of Ghana on May 25, 2022, signed a grant agreement of $69.88 million to implement the Scaling-Up Renewable Energy Programme (SREP). The Agreement was signed, between the Government and the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Climate Investment Fund (CIF), and the Swiss Government Federation. The project has 3 main components: Mini-grid and stand-alone solar homes systems for rural off-grid communities, to be implemented by the Ministry of Energy (MoEn), and the Net-metered solar PV systems for urban and peri-urban electricity consumers, to be implemented by the Energy Commission. Under the Agreement, about 6,890 households, 6,001 Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), and 6,890 public buildings will benefit from net-metered solar PV systems. About 1,350 schools and 500 health centers in rural off-grid communities would benefit from the project. Seventy (70) communities across 9 island districts will be electrified using renewable energy-based Mini-grids systems. The SREP will contribute to the 10% renewable energy penetration target by 2030, the carbon emission reduction target, as well as the universal electricity access target, which currently stands at 87.1%.

As an association, we seeks to build the capacity of AGSI members to take advantage of this as well as various opportunities to bolster local content participation towards achieving the universal electricity access goal in Ghana.

The training details are as follows:

Dear Members and Stakeholders,

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our esteemed colleague Samuel Adu-Asare who was the first Secretary of the Solar Association in Ghana. He departed from this world on 12th November, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be etched in the history of our association.

Samuel Adu-Asare was a visionary leader who played a pivotal role in the establishment and growth of the Solar Association. He demonstrated unwavering dedication to advancing sustainable energy practices in Ghana, contributing significantly to the development of the solar industry. We remember vividly how he and others fought tirelessly to ensure that the Renewable Energy law was passed in parliament.

He was not merely a secretary but a driving force behind many of our initiatives. His passion, commitment, and tireless efforts have left an indelible mark on the association and the renewable energy landscape in our country.
In this moment of grief, let us come together as a community to remember and honor Samuel Adu-Asare. Hewill be remembered not only for his professional contributions but also for his warmth, kindness, and the positive impact he had on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, family and friends during this difficult time. As we mourn the loss of a dear colleague, let us also celebrate his life and the positive change he brought to our association and the renewable energy sector in Ghana.

Details regarding memorial services and condolences will be shared in the coming days. In the meantime, we encourage you to share your memories and tributes, reflecting on the profound impact Samuel had on our lives and the solar community.
