June 30, 2025. We joined many around the globe in excitement as we commemorated World Parliament Day—a day that celebrated transparency, accountability, and the critical role of citizens in shaping democratic governance.

We were particularly thrilled about the inauguration of the Steering Committee and the launch of the Open Parliament Action Plan. These milestones hold immense promise for inclusive governance and responsive leadership.

As young Ghanaian leaders and student parliamentarians, we believe this was a defining moment for youth participation. Our hope is that this Action Plan serves not only as a roadmap for openness but as a clarion call for the full inclusion of national youth bodies in the decision-making process.

We cannot talk about open parliaments without opening up space for the energy, ideas, and agency of Ghana’s youth. Our voices matter. Our presence is essential. And our participation must be intentional and acknowledged—not as an afterthought, but as a strategic pillar of national development.

Let’s build a future where our parliaments reflect the vibrance of our people and the diversity of our dreams.
