Accra, 8 August 2025 – It is with heavy hearts that JCI Ghana joins the nation in mourning the tragic helicopter crash of 6 August 2025, in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region. The Ghana Air Force helicopter carrying eight individuals, including government ministers, political and security officials, and aircrew went down enroute to Obuasi for an event on combating illegal mining (galamsey).
On board were:
• Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister of Defense
• Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science, & Technology
• Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
• Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chair of the NDC
• Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate
• Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Ghana Armed Forces
• Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, Ghana Armed Forces
• Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Ghana Armed Forces
All eight perished when the helicopter crashed into a forested mountainside. This accident is among the worst air disasters Ghana has endured in over a decade.
In a statement, Frederick Yenbaar Nuuri-teg, President of JCI Ghana, shared the organization’s grief:
“This tragedy has struck at the soul of our nation. These were public servants and productive sons of Ghana. They paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. Their courage and commitment must not be forgotten. We extend our deepest sympathies to their families, to His Excellency President John Mahama, and to every Ghanaian mourning this loss. As JCI, we are inspired by their memory to continue building a better Ghana, no matter the cost.”
JCI Ghana extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the Office of the President. We are particularly saddened by the loss of the young individuals whose service reflected deep patriotism and promise. Their passing must remind us of the sacrifices made in service to the nation.
We stand in solidarity with all who mourn. May Ghana find strength and unity in this difficult moment.
