Disaster and climate risks are interconnected. The systems designed to manage them need to reflect that. πŸ•ΈοΈ

The Global Synthesis Report on Comprehensive Risk Management from UNDRR and Risk-Informed Early Action Partnership (REAP) provides a global snapshot of how countries, regions, and institutions are advancing integrated approaches to align disaster risk reduction and climate action for sustainable development.

It draws on National Adaptation Plans and DRR strategies worldwide – supported by AI-informed analysis – to identify promising trends, persistent gaps, and practical pathways for coherence across governance, financing, and implementation.

These six recommendations guide the way forward:
πŸ›οΈ Strengthen governance for coherence and long-term resilience
🀝 Improve coordination across levels and stakeholders
πŸ“Š Develop a shared understanding of disaster and climate risk
πŸ’° Increase and align financing for DRR and climate action
πŸ“‹ Establish robust monitoring and evaluation systems
🌍 Translate global frameworks into national and subnational implementation.

The Earth’s temperature is rising at an alarming rate.

Average global temperatures have already increased by over 1Β°C
since the late 1800s, driven largely by human activities.

This warming is causing glaciers and ice caps to melt,
leading to rising sea levels and threatening coastal areas.

Extreme weather events heatwaves, floods, droughts, and wildfires
are becoming more frequent and more intense.

Global warming is putting ecosystems, wildlife, food security,
water supplies, and human health at serious risk.

If this trend continues, the damage may become irreversible.

There is no Planet B. Act now before it’s too late.

Green-blue-grey infrastructure can help beat city heat πŸŒ³πŸŒŠπŸ—οΈ

New research drawing together findings from numerous studies identifies the effectiveness of 51 types of green-blue-grey infrastructure (GBGI) – ie. plant-based, water-based, and built concrete installations – from street trees to vegetated balconies.

Main findings? Botanical gardens, wetlands, green walls, and street trees provide the most effective cooling benefits, while also managing stormwater, reducing flooding, and sequestering COβ‚‚. 🌑️ Street trees stand out for their dual role in cooling and climate adaptation.

The study also acknowledges challenges, including maintenance costs and potential land-use conflicts.

As cities face rising risks of extreme heatwaves, GBGI can help reduce risks for urban communities ➑️ https://ow.ly/8nRL50W3Yxr
