Background
Network for Community Planning and Development (NECPAD) is a Non-Governmental, non-profit-making organisation and registered with the Registrar General’s Department. The quest to pursue a development agenda with a focus on sustainable community development, poverty alleviation and capacity building issues and to largely promote social justice, gender-equality and general quality of lif
e were the driving force behind the establishment of NECPAD. The NGO was established in June 2002 and registered with the Registrar-General’s Department under the Company’s code of 1963 (Act 179) where it was issued with the Certificate of Incorporation (No. G-14,942) was subsequently issued on 24th June, 2005. In accordance with the company re-registration policy, NECPAD is re-registered with the Registrar-Generals Department with Reg. CG013212019 and Tax Identification No. NECPAD is duly registered and recognized as a non-governmental organisation with the Department of Social Welfare. The Organisation is committed to the use of participatory approaches (including Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) and Poverty-Sensitive, Demand-Responsive Gender Participatory Approaches), networking, research and advocacy issues. The organisation has collaborated with other institutions towards empowering civil society in initiating their own programmes with the view to accelerating development agenda and growth. NECPAD’s vision is to develop partnerships and networks between Governmental/Non-Governmental Organisations, External Support Agencies and Poor Communities with the view to developing strategies that promote the use of simple and operational-oriented approaches in planning, implementation and management of community services and infrastructure in a sustainable manner. The Organisation’s mission is “Promoting Sustainable Development through Networking, Empowerment and Advocacy to bring about a variety of health, environmental and livelihood benefits to the poor”. The organisation’s establishment objective is to identify good practices of appropriate and affordable technologies, techniques and approaches for cost-effective, sustainable and improved planning, provision and management of services and physical infrastructure for development in poor communities”
