Can-Do Woman of the Month, August - Meet Shifra Ainomugisha
Shifra Ainomugisha is a Ugandan social entrepreneur and the founder of Solafam Uganda Ltd, an agritech enterprise transforming smallholder farming through climate smart innovation.
Inspired by her family's farming background, she developed solar powered cold storage, solar irrigation systems, and an AI powered advisory platform to reduce post harvest losses and improve farmers' incomes. Since 2022, her solutions have supported over 1,500 smallholder farmers, 70 percent of whom are women, reducing food loss by 30 percent and increasing household incomes by 28 percent.
In June 2026, Shifra was named the 2026 Commonwealth Young Person of the Year after being selected from 977 applicants across the Commonwealth's 56 member countries. She also received the Africa Regional Award for her outstanding contribution to SDG 2, Zero Hunger.
At The Young Global Leaders Network, we recognise leaders who turn ambition into measurable impact. Shifra's work is a powerful example of how young leaders are driving systemic change at the intersection of technology, agriculture, and gender inclusion. Her model is scalable, community driven, and deeply aligned with the network's mission to equip and amplify the next generation of impact makers.
We are proud to feature her journey in our monthly Can-Do Woman series.
