“Climate justice demands that developed nations fulfil their long-overdue financial commitments.”
— President John Dramani Mahama, UNGA 81

At the 81st Session of the United Nations, General Assembly, President John Dramani Mahama underscored the urgent need for climate justice and equitable financing for developing countries.

As he noted, “Climate change is the ultimate test of global equity. Africa contributes less than 4 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, yet bears some of the heaviest burden of climate devastation.” From erratic rainfall and coastal erosion to accelerating desertification across the Sahel, the impacts of climate change continue to disproportionately affect communities across the continent.

Building resilience requires predictable, accessible climate finance and collective action to support those on the frontlines of the climate crisis.
