The Greater Accra Regional Council of YMCAs, through the Office of the Women’s Commissioner, collaborated with YMCA Kpone-Bawaleshie for a successful Hiking from Ayi-Mensah to Peduase in creating breast cancer awareness through the Pink Across Greater Accra (PAGA) Campaign. 🎀

We were honoured by the presence of the National President, National Youth Chairperson, Regional Vice President, Regional Director, and YMCA members who joined us in promoting healthy living and breast cancer awareness.

Together, we walk for health. Together, we create awareness. ❤️

🌍 HAPPY INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2026!🎉

Today, Ghana YMCA joins young people and partners around the world to celebrate International Youth Day 2026 under the theme
“Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”

Young people may grow up in different communities, face different realities and pursue different paths, but their aspirations often meet at the same point the desire for opportunity, dignity, meaningful work, inclusion and a better future.

At Ghana YMCA, we believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to discover their potential, develop their skills, have their voice heard and contribute meaningfully to society. Through our work in leadership development, skills training, youth justice, creative arts, environmental action, community development and youth empowerment, we remain committed to creating spaces where young people can thrive.

This International Youth Day reminds us that our different contexts should not divide us; rather, they should inspire solutions that recognise the unique realities of young people while advancing our common aspirations for a more just, peaceful, inclusive and sustainable world.

To every young person making a difference in your community, school, workplace, creative space or wherever you find yourself, your voice matters, your dreams matter, and your contribution matters.

The Greater Accra Regional YMCA convened its 31st Biennial Council Meeting, culminating in the Regional Elections and the inauguration of a new Regional Board to lead the movement into its next chapter.

As we begin this new tenure, we congratulate the Regional President Robert Teye Mensah Nartey on his re-election for a second term and wish him continued wisdom, strength and purpose as he builds on the progress already made.

We look forward to continued leadership that advances service, youth empowerment, stronger communities and meaningful impact across the Greater Accra Region.

From Tuesday to today, it has been four inspiring days of learning, collaboration, and growth.

A team of four representatives (Robert Teye Mensah Nartey-Regional President, Reginald Ffoulkes Crabbe-Regional Director, Winnifred Goku-IP Chairperson, Kpone Bawaleshie YMCA and Helmut Kabu Okunor-Kpone Bawaleshie YMCA Secretary) from the Greater Accra Region YMCA joined 20 participants from across the Ghana YMCA family for an intensive workshop on Communication, Fundraising, and Resource Mobilization under the Stronger Ys Project.

We return home with fresh ideas, stronger networks, and practical strategies to help mobilize resources, tell our stories better, and strengthen the impact of the YMCA in our communities.

The journey ends today, but the work begins now.

Today, 6th June 2026, the Greater Accra YMCA proudly joins millions of YMCA members, volunteers, staff, alumni, and supporters across the world in commemorating the 182nd Anniversary of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), founded on 6th June 1844 by Sir George Williams in London, England.
For one hundred and eighty-two years, the YMCA has remained a beacon of hope, service, youth empowerment, social transformation, and Christian witness. From its humble beginnings during the Industrial Revolution to becoming one of the largest and most respected youth-serving movements in the world, the YMCA has continuously adapted to the changing needs of society while remaining steadfast in its mission of empowering young people and building healthy communities.
As we celebrate this historic milestone, we reflect on the enduring values that have sustained our movement through generations—faith, volunteerism, inclusiveness, integrity, social responsibility, and service to humanity. These values continue to inspire our work in communities across the Greater Accra Region and beyond.
Today also presents an opportunity to honour the countless volunteers, leaders, staff, partners, and members, past and present, whose sacrifices and commitment have contributed to the growth and impact of the YMCA in Ghana. We pay special tribute to those who laid the foundation upon which we continue to build and those who remain dedicated to advancing the mission of the Association.
As the Greater Accra YMCA, we reaffirm our commitment to:
• Empowering young people to become responsible leaders and active citizens;
• Promoting volunteerism as a tool for community transformation;
• Strengthening branches and local initiatives that respond to the needs of our communities;
• Fostering peace, social cohesion, and sustainable development;
• Upholding the Christian values and principles upon which the YMCA was founded.
This anniversary serves as a reminder that the YMCA is not merely an institution but a movement of people united by a common purpose: to create opportunities for all to grow in spirit, mind, and body.
As we look to the future, we call upon all members of the Greater Accra YMCA to renew their commitment to the ideals of the Association, actively participate in its programmes, and continue to serve as ambassadors of hope and positive change in their communities.
