Did you know Ghana has a National Adaptation Plan (NAP), and do you know what’s in it?
A week ago, the Youth Climate Council Ghana, in partnership with the Youth Bridge Foundation, brought this question to the students of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya, and the response was incredible.
Many Ghanaians, including university students, are unaware that Ghana has taken a bold step in structuring its climate adaptation priorities through the NAP: a comprehensive framework designed to guide the country’s response to climate change across critical sectors. Under the theme “From Policy to Action: Advancing Ghana’s National Adaptation Plan through University Youth Engagement,” we walked over 200 participants through the core priorities of the NAP, including: Biodiversity and Ecosystems, Agriculture and Food Security and Water Resources
A huge thank you to the management and staff of for their warm reception and support. To our brilliant facilitators, Yolanda from , Noah Bugre from , and our consultant on this project, Sarfoh, who led the NAP overview, and Maltiti from YCCG, your energy and expertise made the breakout sessions truly come alive. And to our 200+ students who showed up ready to engage, ask questions, and think deeply about local adaptation strategies, you are exactly why this work matters.
Youth at the university level are key to translating policy into real action on the ground. The conversation has started, now it’s time to act. We look forward to taking this engagement to more young people across the country.
