“I entered care as a child. I left at 18 without a roadmap.”

Care reform must not only focus on children entering care, but also those transitioning out.

Policies must address:
• Aftercare support
• Education and employment pathways
• Emotional and social support

Nothing about us without us.

For too long, decisions about children in care were made without the voices of those who lived it.
That must change.
From 2015 to today, Ghana’s care system has undergone major reforms — from the Child and Family Welfare Policy to the National Care Reform Roadmap (2024–2028). The focus has shifted from institutional care to family-based alternatives, stronger regulations, and better child protection systems.
But policy is only part of the story.
Behind every reform is a real child.
Behind every statistic is a lived experience.
Behind every roadmap are care leavers who understand the system from the inside.
This month, the Care Leavers Ghana Network (CLGN) is launching a powerful series:
“A Decade of Care Reform: Progress, Gaps & Our Voice.”
We will break down:
✔ What has changed since 2015
✔ What the National Care Reform Roadmap promises
✔ What progress looks like in reality
✔ What still needs urgent attention
✔ And why care leavers must be at the decision-making table
Because reform is not complete without us.
We are not just beneficiaries of the system.
We are experts by experience.
We are leaders shaping the future of care in Ghana.
Follow this series. Engage. Share.
And join us as we advocate for a care system that protects, prepares, and prioritizes every child.
Nothing about us without us.

We are delighted to have been invited to participate in the Visioning Workshop, scheduled to take place from 15–18 September 2025 in Nairobi.
This event will convene care-experienced young leaders from around the world to co-create a vision for a new global organisation led by care leavers.
We are proud to be part of this exceptional opportunity.
