"I never thought I would get the chance to experience something like this again."
These were the heartfelt words of one of our seniors during Golden Chapter Foundation's annual excursion to Papaye Recreational Village, Konkonuru, on Thursday, 9th July 2026.
For many of our older adults, this was much more than a trip—it was a return to joy, independence, and a renewed sense of belonging. Many had spent months, and in some cases years, confined to their homes and suffering the pain of loneliness because of limited mobility, or simply the absence of loved ones nearby. On this special day, they left those worries behind and embraced an adventure they will treasure for years to come.
Three buses filled with enthusiastic seniors and devoted volunteers journeyed from Accra through the beautiful countryside to a day full of laughter, discovery, and companionship. They enjoyed scenic cart rides through the recreational village, marvelled at exotic animals in the zoo, breathed in the refreshing beauty of nature, and shared unforgettable moments together.
The laughter shared during our games, the lively dancing, the delicious snacks donated by Manna Bakery, and the satisfying Papaye meals reminded us all that growing older should never mean growing disconnected from life's beautiful experiences. Watching our seniors dance with infectious smiles was a powerful reminder that the human spirit remains vibrant regardless of age. Walking aids and wheelchairs did not define the day—joy did.
As we journeyed back to Accra, our buses were filled with grateful hearts, cheerful conversations, and memories that will long outlive the day itself. Seeing the happiness on the faces of our seniors affirmed why Golden Chapter Foundation remains committed to ensuring that older adults experience dignity, companionship, and moments worth celebrating.
