Ahead of , we are bringing young people and governance stakeholders together for a conversation on a critical question: how can young people move beyond participation to actively lead governance processes and shape the decisions that affect their lives and future?

The International Youth Day Side Event on Youth Participation in Governance will explore barriers to youth participation, opportunities for greater representation and leadership, the role of digital platforms in civic engagement, and practical pathways for young people to take up leadership.

As Ghana looks towards the 2027 District Assembly and Unit Committee elections and the 2028 general elections, the conversation will focus on how we can move from simply including young people to ensuring they have a meaningful role in leading governance processes and shaping Ghana’s democratic future.

To live free from violence with dignity, choice and safety✅️

This is why on this Youth Day, CEWODEPP Ghana links the celebration to our work under the
Action to Strengthen Protection, Inclusion, Rights and Empowerment (ASPIRE) Integrated Sexual Violence Response and Prevention Project.

We know that young women especially young women with disabilities face heightened risks of sexual violence across different spaces and their stories are often unheard and justice is far.

Through ASPIRE, we are responding and preventing by:
1. Strengthening PROTECTION by creating safe and youth-friendly reporting pathways.
2. Ensuring INCLUSION by centering girls, young women, boys, young men, persons with disabilities who are often left out of SGBV services.
3. Defending RIGHTS by providing survivor-centered information on rights and access to justice.
4. Driving EMPOWERMENT by equipping ASPIRE participants with knowledge, agency and economic alternatives.

The context may differ, but every young person aspires to be safe in their body, heard in their voice and free in their future♀️♂️✅️✅️♿️.

This Youth Day, let us aspire with them and act for them✨️✨️✨️💜💜💜📢🎤.

It's in 🍲 meals prepared, 🚸 children walked to school, 👵🏼 aging parents supported, 🧺 laundry washed and folded and 📝 countless invisible tasks that make daily life possible.

There are more young people on the planet today than at any other point in human history.

Wednesday’s International Youth Day is an opportunity to celebrate young people’s determination to make positive change and contributions to our world and collective future.

“Young people are already leading the way as organizers and innovators. But to go further, they need access to the skills that will shape the future – from critical thinking and problem-solving to digital literacy,” UN Secretary-General António Guterres stressed.
