SOMPA

SOMPA SOMPA is a Catholic NGO initiated by the Ghana Province of the Society of African Missions (SMA) as Who We Are
Our focus is simple but profound in a unique way.

We seek to build, restore and sustain. We are oriented just towards good service. SOMPA is a Catholic NGO initiated by the Ghana Province of the Society of African Missions (SMA) as a vehicle of transforming the lives of many people we serve as missionaries. As a faith-based organization, we strive to accompany people in discovering their God-given talents and resources in order to better their li

ving conditions. For us, ‘development’ is necessarily human and integral just as the Papal encyclical Caritas in Veritate teaches. The humanness of development is based on its ability to be at the service of humanity and it is integral when the “primary capital to be safeguarded and valued is man, the human person…” (Caritas in Veritate no. 25) so that “the idea of a world without development is a distrust of man and God” (ibid, no.14). Catholic Social Teaching (CST) as the foundation of our commitment
The CST according to Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (1986) in its Instruction on Christian Freedom and Liberation, “has established itself as a doctrine by using the resources of human wisdom and the sciences. It concerns the ethical aspect of this life. It took into account the technical aspects of problems but always in order to judge them from the moral point of view.” The CST functions with principles that are constantly valid in all socio-economic situations and are contingent in time and place. These principles are as follows: the dignity of the human person, solidarity, subsidiarity and the common good. Since the principles are universal they can be applied in all situations. In the words of Pope Benedict CST: “assembles into a unity the fragments in which it is often found and mediates it within the constantly changing life patterns of the society of peoples and nations” (Caritas in Veritate no.9).

GRAND OPENING OF BRESILLAC CATHOLIC SCHOOL

On Saturday, December 3, 2022, the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Most Rev. Henryk M. Jagodzinski, commissioned the Bresillac Catholic School at Oshuiman Estate, Accra with a reminder that Catholic education is form evangelisation which is at the heart of the Church’s mission and at the service of society.

The School established by the Society of African Missions (SMA) was started on January 18, 2022 with 54 pupils. It is named after the founder of the SMA, Venerable Bishop Melchior de Marion Bresillac and has a staff strength of 16 made of 10 teaching staff and six non-teaching staff which is headed by Rev. Sr. Doris Gyan, OLA.

Making reference to the Church’s document: The Catholic School on the Threshold of the 3rd Millennium issued by the Congregation for Catholic Education, the Nuncio said “The complexity of the modern world makes it all the more necessary to increase awareness of the ecclesial identity of the Catholic School. It is from its catholic identity that the school derives its original characteristics and its structure as a genuine instrument of the Church, a place of real and specific pastoral ministry.”

According to him, the Catholic school participates in the evangelisation mission of the Church and is the privileged environment in which Christian education was carried out.

“At Bresillac, we believe that each child is unique. The School sought to create a safe haven where every child would be guided to develop his or her full potential, skills, interest and passion. As a Catholic school, we are not only concerned about the academic growth of the children but also their spiritual and moral growth.”
