Exactly one week ago, on , CRS Ghana joined the Forestry Commission Ghana, the Department of Agriculture, community leaders, and partners to commemorate the ๐๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐“๐ซ๐ž๐ž ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐‹๐ข๐Ÿ๐ž ๐ˆ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž at St. Vincent College of Education in Yendi.

A highlight of the event was the distribution of to farmers and the planting of trees on the school premises by stakeholders, reaffirming our collective commitment to environmental restoration, climate resilience, and a greener future.

This initiative aligns closely with our Regreening Africa Project, which is working with communities across Northern Ghana to restore 100,000 hectares of degraded land, strengthen , and support more than 60,000 households through the promotion of practices.

CRS remains committed to supporting efforts that empower communities to sustainably manage natural resources and build resilient landscapes that can withstand the impacts of climate change.

Across Yendi and Mion Districts, community members are taking action to restore degraded lands and protect the future of their communities.

A key step in this process is the formation of lead farmer groups and fire volunteer groups, laying the foundation for stronger community-led restoration efforts.

๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿพโ€๐ŸŒพ Lead farmers will champion Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) and tree planting.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fire volunteers will spearhead bushfire prevention and control, helping to protect landscapes and livelihoods.

Together, these groups will drive sustainable land restoration, safeguard the , and inspire collective action for a future.

This work forms part of the Regreening Africa Project, funded by the European Union in Ghana and implemented by a consortium led by CIFOR-ICRAF, with CRS and Vision Ghana as key implementing partners.

Last week, the CRS Ghana team met with Mr. Frรฉdรฉric Fรฉraille, Managing Director of Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC, and his team for a mid-year review of the ๐–๐ก๐ข๐ญ๐ž ๐•๐จ๐ฅ๐ญ๐š ๐๐š๐ฌ๐ข๐ง ๐–๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ก๐ž๐ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฃ๐ž๐œ๐ญ.

The White Volta River Basin is a critical of water for Tamale and surrounding communities, yet unregulated sand mining, deforestation, and farming along the riverbanks continue to threaten its long-term sustainability.

Through this partnership, we are working to protect and restore the watershed while safeguarding water security for households, communities, and businesses.

๐‡๐ž๐ซ๐ž'๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐ฅ๐จ๐จ๐ค๐ฌ ๐ฅ๐ข๐ค๐ž ๐ฌ๐จ ๐Ÿ๐š๐ซ:
๐Ÿ“Over 100 boundary poles have been installed across a 3.5km stretch, clearly demarcating protected buffer zones and helping prevent further degradation along the riverbanks.

๐ŸŒฑ More than 30,000 seedlings are being raised in collaboration with the Forestry Commission Ghana to restore degraded landscapes in the Nawuni sub-catchment of the White Volta River Basin.

๐Ÿ›๏ธMobilized over 50 key stakeholders to address unregulated sand mining, leading to the formation of a Technical Working Group, led by the Minerals Commission, to develop a framework for sustainable sand mining within the basin.

๐Ÿค Engaged sand miners and machine owners to promote sustainable practices that protect the river while supporting livelihoods.

The mid-year review reaffirmed an important lesson: when the private sector, government, and development partners work together, meaningful progress follows.

CRS Ghana, under the project, brought together partners for a two-day Planning and Reflection Meeting to review progress, share lessons, and strengthen collaboration for the final year of the project.

In 2025 alone, the Enhancing Access to Safely Managed WASH Services in Greater Tamale (SafeWASH) project supported the construction of 62 household latrines, benefiting nearly 300 people across selected communities in the Northern Region.

At the school level, a 20-seater toilet facility was renovated, improving sanitation conditions for more than 1,770 students in the Sakasaka Cluster of Schools and residents of surrounding communities.

As the project enters its final year, partners agreed to strengthen sustainability measures while updating the 2026 implementation plan.

The meeting brought together 27 partners and stakeholders, including representatives from the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, iDE, Woord en Daad, GMB, and PerfSan.

Together, we are improving access to safe, sustainable, and inclusive water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services for communities in Greater Tamale.

Currently in Bolgatanga, CRS, the Ghana Health Service, and partners have convened for a three-day reflection meeting to review progress in improving access to and health services under the HOPE-MCH project.

Now nearing two years of implementation, the ๐‡๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐œ ๐Ž๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐„๐ง๐ ๐š๐ ๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐ข๐ง ๐Œ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐‚๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐ ๐‡๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก (๐‡๐Ž๐๐„-๐Œ๐‚๐‡) ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ฃ๐ž๐œ๐ญ has improved access to and utilization of care across 120 health facilities in the Northern, Savannah, North-East and Upper East regions.

To strengthen emergency response, the project has established two dispatch centers and provided 40 modified tricycle ambulances to the National Ambulance Service, facilitating over 400 referrals โ€“ 80% involving mothers and newborns in distress.

Building on these gains, partners are sharing lessons and strengthening strategies to accelerate progress towards reducing maternal and newborn deaths in Northern Ghana.

The HOPE-MCH project is funded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and implemented by CRS, in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service and Ambulance Service.

In the Upper East Region, 40 community members and security personnel came together for a training on preventing through stronger civilโ€“security collaboration.

The training provided a valuable platform for open conversations on conflict prevention, community resilience, early warning mechanisms, and the importance of civilโ€“security cooperation in maintaining and stability.

From sharing experiences to discussing practical solutions, the training reinforced one key message: keeping peace is a shared responsibility, and it starts with working together.
