𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 🕊️

In Bolgatanga, 50 youth leaders from the Upper East Region have completed a one-week training on 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐦 (𝐏𝐕𝐄), equipping them with practical skills to promote peace and strengthen community resilience.

Through interactive sessions, participants strengthened their understanding of the drivers of violent extremism, early warning signs, peacebuilding, youth leadership, and practical ways to counter extremist narratives in their communities.

As security concerns grow across the Sahel region, empowering young people as advocates for peace has never been more important.

The training is part of the 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐏𝐨𝐕𝐄𝐓𝐒𝐀) 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭, funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented by CRS Ghana, National Peace Council, Ghana, and The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Accra Ghana

CRS Ghana, through the 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭, is strengthening the capacity of local actors leading land restoration efforts across northern Ghana.🌱

In Bolgatanga, a 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 (𝐓𝐨𝐓) workshop brought together Agricultural Extension Agents, Forestry Officers, and NGO partners to enhance their capacity in:

✅ Nursery management
✅ Quality tree seed systems
✅ Sustainable land management practices

Through this Training of Trainers approach, participants are now better equipped to share these skills with and – helping scale restoration efforts, improve land productivity, and build resilience for families across northern Ghana.

The Regreening Africa Phase II Project is funded by the European Union in Ghana and implemented by a consortium led by CIFOR-ICRAF, with CRS and Vision Ghana as key implementing partners.

Today marks the start of a one-week training on 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐦 (𝐏𝐕𝐄) for youth in Bolgatanga, bringing together 50 young people from the Upper East Region.

Over the coming days, participants will learn, share experiences, and strengthen their role as youth leaders committed to peace in the region and beyond.

The journey toward peace begins with informed, empowered youth. 🕊️

𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐆𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐚💧

Last week, CRS Ghana and our public sector partners welcomed the Managing Director of Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC, Mr. Frédéric Féraille, and his team on a field visit to key project sites supporting efforts to and the 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐭𝐚 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧, a critical water source for Tamale and surrounding communities.

The visit began at the Forestry Commission’s Northern Regional nursery, where thousands of seedlings are being raised to restore degraded landscapes along the Nawuni sub-catchment of the White Volta River Basin.

🌱This directly supports our ongoing efforts to plant 90,000 seedlings and restore 50 hectares of riparian land over a three-year period, helping secure clean water while protecting the livelihoods of farmers who feed us all.

🚰Next was the Nawuni intake point, where water is abstracted for treatment by Ghana Water Limited. The impact of unregulated sand mining and other harmful activities was clear. In response, the Water Resources Commission Ghana - WRC is already leading efforts through the 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐭𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝 to protect the river, including demarcating protected buffer zones to establish “𝐧𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬” areas.

🤝Our collaboration with Guinness Ghana, government partners, and the communities demonstrates what real looks like. When we come together, challenges become solvable, progress becomes visible, and communities become stronger.

This is the guiding question for stakeholders at the ongoing Learning, Design, and Development (LDD) Workshop in Accra.

Organized by CRS Ghana, in collaboration with the National Peace Council, Ghana and the The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Accra Ghana, the three-day workshop aims to develop a practical training curriculum on 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧–𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐦.

Once finalized, the curriculum will strengthen collaboration between and actors in regions affected by violent extremism, reinforcing shared responsibility for and in Ghana.
