Last week, CRS Ghana brought together more than 40 partners for a reflection meeting on Year 2 of the ๐…๐ข๐ง๐š๐ง๐œ๐ข๐š๐ฅ ๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐‹๐š๐ฌ๐ญ ๐Œ๐ข๐ฅ๐ž ๐€๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ฌ (๐…๐ˆ๐‹๐Œ๐€) ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ฆ.

The two-day meeting provided an opportunity for partners from the Department of Agriculture, Women Integrated Development Organization (WIDO), Afram Plains Development Organisation (APDO), RUFA Focus Africa, and YEFL-Ghana to reflect on progress, strengthen collaboration, and align priorities for Year 3 implementation.

To date, the FILMA Program has reached more than 70,000 young people across 18 selected districts in the Volta, Oti, Bono East and Northern Regions. By creating pathways to dignified and fulfilling work in Ghanaโ€™s agriculture and agri-adjacent sectors, the initiative is advancing toward its goal of reaching 100,000 young people (70% women and 5% persons with disabilities) and transitioning 80,000 into active employment.

As we move into Year 3, we are building on this progress to expand economic opportunities, strengthen financial inclusion, and support more young people to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute to Ghanaโ€™s economy.

Today, CRS Ghana, the National Peace Council, Ghana, and UNDP Ghana convened an ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ-๐๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ฒ ๐ƒ๐ข๐š๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฎ๐ž, bringing together political parties, civil society and media stakeholders to discuss ways to strengthen peaceful political engagement.

The dialogue focused on strengthening political tolerance, reducing polarisation, promoting responsible public discourse and building consensus on issues that matter to Ghana.

CRS is proud to support initiatives that promote peaceful coexistence, strengthen democratic participation, and help communities thrive in an environment of stability and respect.

In Tamale, CRS Ghana, in collaboration with the Northern Regional Coordinating Council, Water Resources Commission Ghana - WRC, and Minerals Commission, convened the second ๐‘๐ž๐ ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐Œ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ข-๐’๐ญ๐š๐ค๐ž๐ก๐จ๐ฅ๐๐ž๐ซ ๐…๐จ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐จ๐ง ๐’๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ข๐ง๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ž ๐’๐š๐ง๐ ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ .

The forum brought together over 120 stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, District Assemblies, traditional authorities, sand miners, civil society organizations, and other key actors, to advance practical solutions for sustainable sand mining in the White Volta River Basin.

A key outcome was the validation of a ๐ƒ๐ซ๐š๐Ÿ๐ญ ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐‘๐ž๐ ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐…๐ซ๐š๐ฆ๐ž๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ค ๐จ๐ง ๐’๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ข๐ง๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ž ๐’๐š๐ง๐ ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ , which provides a pathway for community-based and environmentally responsible sand mining practices.

The White Volta River Basin is a vital source of water for millions of people across Northern Ghana. Yet unregulated sand mining and human activities are degrading the river and surrounding landscapes, threatening water quality, increasing water treatment costs, and putting livelihoods at risk.

Once adopted, the framework will help create a system where sand mining can support local livelihoods without compromising the water and ecosystems that communities depend on every day.

The forum concluded with strong commitments from stakeholders, including agreement on district-level bylaws, a collaborative action plan, and a shared resolve to advance the adoption and implementation of the framework.

The forum forms part of ongoing initiatives funded by Guinness Ghana, Diageo Nigeria, and The Nature Conservancy, aimed at restoring the White Volta River Basin, promoting water security, and supporting sustainable livelihoods.

As violent extremism continues to threaten across the Sahel, protecting Ghana's peace means understanding the conditions that could increase vulnerability before they become security threats.

Together with the National Peace Council, Ghana, CRS convened representatives from government, security agencies, civil society organizations, traditional and religious leaders, development partners, academia, and the media to share findings from new research on the factors shaping vulnerability to violent extremism across Ghana's five northern regions.

The study points to youth , , challenges, and unresolved local as key factors that can heighten vulnerability. But it also highlights something equally important: communities already possess powerful assets for peace. Trusted local leaders, strong family support systems, and social cohesion remain critical foundations for building resilience.

The discussions reinforced one message: preventing violent extremism requires more than security measures. It demands inclusive governance, economic opportunities for young people, stronger trust between communities and institutions, and locally led solutions that address grievances before they escalate.

Across Ghana, communities are already experiencing floods, prolonged droughts, extreme temperatures, and other climate-related hazards that are affecting livelihoods, food security, health, and the well-being of vulnerable populations.

To help communities better prepare for these challenges, CRS Ghana has commissioned the development of a Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management Strategy that will strengthen the integration of climate resilience, disaster risk reduction, adaptation, and environmental stewardship across our programmes.

As part of this process, CRS recently convened stakeholders from the government and private sectors, development and civil society organizations, and research institutions in Tamale to share insights and help shape a strategy that reflects Ghana's climate realities and priorities.

The discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration, inclusive stakeholder engagement, and alignment with national frameworks to ensure communities are better prepared for climate-related shocks and stresses.

Together, we are working to build resilience, protect vulnerable populations, and create a more sustainable future for all.

Early this month, the CRS Ghana team participated in the ๐‚๐ˆ๐‘๐€๐–๐€ ๐€๐ ๐ซ๐จ๐ž๐œ๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐Ÿ๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž, a regional event held in Accra.

The three-day conference brought together policymakers, researchers, farmers, development partners, and civil society organizations from more than 30 countries to share knowledge and explore practical approaches for scaling agroecological restoration across Africa.

As part of the conference, CRS facilitated an interactive workshop that explored key themes, including transition, multifunctional landscapes, community-led restoration, and strategies for scaling successful restoration models. The discussions generated valuable insights that will help strengthen the implementation of the Regreening Africa Project and support more resilient landscapes and livelihoods.

The conference reinforced a shared commitment to , and as critical drivers of landscape restoration, food security and climate resilience.
