๐๏ธ In Loving Memory of Efo Martin Torgbe (1961โ2026)
It is with great sadness that we share the unexpected passing of our longtime friend Efo Martin Torgbe, co-founder of our partner organisation, the Kwaabuette School of African Music and Dance, and one of its project leaders, who passed away unexpectedly over the weekend at the age of 65.
Only a few hours earlier, Efo Martin had performed on stage with Nii Adjarh Torto (โSenegalโ). After the performance, he returned home and passed away peacefully during the night into Saturday. His passing came as a complete shock to all of us.
Our project leader from Germany, Claas Wiechmann, has known Efo Martin since his very first trip to Ghana. Together with Efo Martin and Nii Adjarh Torto, they built the Kwaabuette School of African Music and Dance and developed many music and dance projects for children and young people in Osu and the surrounding communities.
Since last year, Precious Plastic Won Bee Ga, Ba! and the Kwaabuette School have also been developing environmental education workshops through music and dance. Efo Martin played an important role in inspiring children through the combination of culture, rhythm, and environmental awareness.
Efo Martin was one of the most gifted drummers and an outstanding bell playerโa truly world-class musician. Together with Senegal, he formed an exceptional team for decades and inspired thousands of children and young people in Ghana and Europe.
His passing is a great loss to his family and to the entire Precious Plastic and Ankwa Roots family.
Our thoughts are with Efo Martinโs family and everyone who was close to him.
We will share the funeral details as soon as they are confirmed.
Rest in peace, Efo Martin. Your legacy will live on. On on we go. ๐๏ธ๐
