The Ghana Institute of Planning (GIP) joined JOYNEWS and the Amalgam of Professional Bodies for a highly insightful Speaker Series held on 6th May 2026 under the theme “Centers of Prosperity @ the Center of the World: How We Can Manage Our Cities Better to Stimulate Economic Growth.”

The thought-provoking session was delivered by distinguished legal practitioner and Fellow of the Institute, Pln. David Ofosu-Dorte (PhD), who challenged stakeholders to rethink urban governance, planning systems, and institutional coordination as critical drivers of sustainable economic growth and competitive cities.

The event featured the President of GIP, Pln. Percy Anaab Bukari, alongside the 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents, Pln. Kofi Kekeli Amedzro and Pln. Benedict Arkhurst respectively. Also present was Immediate Past President Pln. Mohammed A. Damba.

The programme further brought together key leaders from sister professional institutions including President of the Ghana Institution of Engineering, Ing. Ludwig Hesse, President of the Ghana Institute of Architects, Arch. Toni Asare, and Immediate Past President of GhIE, Ing. Kobi Bempong. The session was expertly moderated by Surv. Kwadwo Akoto Boateng.

The discussions reinforced the critical role of integrated planning, strategic urban management, and professional collaboration in shaping prosperous, resilient, and inclusive cities for Ghana’s future.
