World Earth Day Spotlight: Prince Laar

Today, we celebrate Prince Laar, President of the KNUST Youth-NREG Students Platform, for his dedication to protecting our planet and empowering the next generation of climate leaders.

His work reflects a deep commitment to climate action, sustainable agriculture, and youth empowerment. Through the Youth in Natural Resources and Environmental Governance Platform, he has championed climate-smart agriculture by creating awareness and building the capacity of young people to adopt resilient farming practices. He continues to promote climate literacy, helping young people move beyond knowledge into meaningful action, while advancing agroecology and sustainable land use.

Prince’s journey is also marked by continuous learning, particularly in carbon accounting and ESG analysis, strengthening his contribution to data-driven climate solutions.

This World Earth Day, we celebrate his passion, leadership, and commitment to driving inclusive solutions that protect the environment, strengthen livelihoods, and inspire youth to shape a more sustainable future.

Our Student Platform focal person, Yolanda Aidoo, facilitated a breakout session on water resources as part of the University Training on Ghana's National Adaptation Plan (NAP), organised by the Youth Bridge Foundation and Youth Climate Council Ghana in collaboration with the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) on 1st April 2026.

The training, themed "From Policy to Action: Advancing Ghana's National Adaptation Plan through University Youth Engagement", brought together students and experts to explore Ghana's NAPs and build solutions to combat the climate risks including heat waves, flooding, coastal erosion, and drought, and the priority sectors under the NAP, reinforcing the critical role of youth in advancing climate resilience.

During Yolanda's breakout session, students brainstormed innovative strategies to tackle water-related climate risks, ultimately reaching a consensus on an integrated solution combining sewage reuse for washroom facilities and desalination of saltwater for domestic and agricultural use — a scalable and sustainable approach to water resource management.
