Countries are driving extraordinary progress eliminating neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in the world’s hardest-to-reach communities, fostering one of the most successful public health initiatives in history.

As of 2024, 54 countries had eliminated at least one NTD–including seven countries last year alone. Eliminations are more than just public health milestones. When people are healthy and free from NTDs, children can attend school, adults can go to work, and families have a better shot at breaking cycles of poverty.

And today, on , two more eliminations were announced: onchocerciasis (river blindness) in Niger and human African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) in Guinea.

With continued partnership between endemic countries, donors, industry and partners, a world free from NTDs is within reach for all. Read more about how partners are driving an escape from neglect on Devex here: http://bit.ly/40yu22e

Day 8: "STOP HUMAN TRAFFICKING NOW" Campaign 2025

YORI -Youth Rise International has observed with great concern the rates of unemployment in Ghana and across Africa especially among the youth population which forms the majority share of the entire population.

This huge unemployed and vulnerable youth population becomes the target market for miscreant traffickers and slave-masters for cross-border or trans-national trafficking for labour and s*x exploitation.

As joins the anti-trafficking movement globally to create massive awareness in the month of January which is annually dedicated as the human trafficking awareness month, we call on the President of Ghana and all the Head of States of Africa to prioritize jobs creation and entrepreneurship development in order to empower the youth economically.

We strongly believe, back by grassroots evidence that it is the most strategic and sustainable approach to preventing and eliminating human trafficking and modern slavery in Ghana and Africa.

The time to act is NOW or NEVER.
