« Je ne suis pas venue parler de la , je suis venue m'en servir. Ce qui s'est enclenché dans les deal rooms de Biashara à Lomé, nous l'avons concrétisé : je suis en partenariat avec Togomall pour faire entrer mes produits — poudre de dattes, tiger nuts, granola — au Togo et, au-delà, sur le continent.

J'ai obtenu des accords de marque blanche, sur mon tamba et ma poudre de dattes. Restent les obstacles que nous connaissons toutes : la logistique, le paiement d'un pays à l'autre. Mais pour la première fois, je repars avec un carnet de commandes, pas une promesse. »

Aux Deal Rooms de , on ne s'est pas contentés de réunir des femmes d'Afrique de l'Ouest pour leur présenter les outils : c'est là qu'on nous a dit assez de discours, commençons à commercer — et que nous avons commencé.

C'est de ces deal rooms de Lomé qu'est née la suite.
Depuis le , avec , j'ai parrainé la venue de plusieurs de ces entrepreneures pour qu'elles poursuivent à ce que nous avions enclenché chez nous.
Certaines ont signé, d'autres finalisent — mais le déclic, c'était Lomé.

Car nos marchés inter-africains, c'est là qu'est l'opportunité. »

“We’ve got to start with the basics, and that is to enable goods, services, people to move seamlessly across the borders, to enable the competitiveness of our private sector, in particular SMEs. This is a very, very ambitious task, but entirely achievable.”

During the Project Management Institute Global Summit Series in , H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the Secretariat, emphasised that Africa must begin with the practical foundations of integration: enabling goods, services and people to move seamlessly across borders.

He also highlighted the importance of strengthening the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises, informal traders and smallholder farmers, whose ability to access larger markets will be central to the success of the AfCFTA.

is taking the Protocol on Investment forward.

The Secretariat, in collaboration with the Government of Sierra Leone, convened a Stakeholder Engagement, Validation and Capacity-Building Workshop in on 14-15 September 2026.

Held under the Protocol on Investment Implementation and Support Programme (PIISP), with support from , the workshop brought together government institutions, the private sector and other stakeholders to validate a diagnostic of Sierra Leone's investment framework and identify practical priorities for reform.

The discussions focused on stronger institutional coordination, better access to investment information and closer alignment of investment laws, policies and strategies at the national, Ecowas - Cedeao and continental levels.

The next step is to develop a practical roadmap for legal, policy and institutional reforms to strengthen Sierra Leone's ability to attract and facilitate sustainable and intra-African investment.

From fragmented markets to one integrated African market.
Speaking at the Project Management Institute Global Summit Series in Town, H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the AfCFTA Secretariat, emphasised that Africa’s economic transformation depends on building the scale and competitiveness that come with deeper continental integration.

For the , success must translate into tangible benefits for businesses, particularly SMEs: lower trade costs, fewer administrative barriers and access to new markets across the continent.

H.E. Mene also highlighted the importance of implementation through national reforms, modern customs systems, digital trade tools and efficient payment solutions.

As Africa looks to the future, the digital economy and artificial intelligence present significant opportunities for investment, innovation and jobs, with Africa’s young population positioned to play a defining role.
