Join us for a screening of two acclaimed short documentaries, Inner Blooming Springs and Fragments on Resistance, exploring democracy, civic engagement, resilience, identity, and political transformation through deeply personal stories. The screening will be followed by an audience discussion facilitated by Club Alpbach Georgia and Club Alpbach Belgrade 🇷🇸, offering space to reflect on the films and exchange perspectives.

Meet Rezi Tchitanava ✨

Rezi Tchitanava grew up in Zugdidi, Georgia, ten kilometres from the administrative boundary line with Abkhazia. The environment he grew up in influenced his research interests. He holds an MA in International Relations from Ilia State University and recently completed a second MA in European Interdisciplinary Studies at the College of Europe, Natolin, with an Erasmus+ exchange at the University of Groningen along the way. His thesis compared how China’s growing influence is reshaping the foreign policies of Georgia and Serbia, arguing that stalled EU enlargement has opened a “shelter gap” that China has stepped into through investment, infrastructure, and political backing. He has also worked with GIZ and interned at the U.S. Embassy in Georgia.

What is Rezi looking forward to at EFA26? 💫

“The people Georgian participants will meet will likely be the next decision-makers in Europe. It’s vital that our connection remains strong, since the power of public diplomacy will play a key role in shaping relations between the EU and Georgia in the future. Georgia is Europe and belongs to Europe—this is the message we will try to carry throughout the Forum, and I believe the Forum will be an opportunity to strengthen ties with European youth.”

Meet Elizabeta Sarkisyan ✨

Elizabeta Sarkisyan is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Human Rights and International Cooperation at the University of Bologna. She interns with the OSCE’s Democratisation Department, contributing to initiatives on democratic governance and inclusive institutions, and serves as a World Bank MTE Youth Ambassador, engaging in discussions on youth participation and international development. Alongside this, she runs bilingual channels on political analysis (PolitView) and youth opportunities (Growth Corner), making policy debates and career pathways more accessible to young people across the region. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and has previous experience in conflict research, civic education, and work with international and local organisations on democracy, human rights, and social inclusion.

What is Elizabeta looking forward to at EFA26? 💫

“I see EFA26 as an opportunity to engage with people working across policy, academia, civil society, and international organisations on some of Europe’s most pressing challenges. I’m especially looking forward to discussions on democracy, human rights, and the resilience of democratic institutions in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment, as well as to bringing a South Caucasus perspective into conversations that are often framed without it.

Beyond the formal programme, I aim to exchange ideas with participants from different sectors and backgrounds and to return with new collaborations and a sharper sense of how these challenges connect across regions.”

Meet Giorgi Kajaia ✨

Giorgi Kajaia believes that meaningful change happens when advocacy, communication and civic engagement come together. As Strategic Communications and Advocacy Officer at LABOR, he works to advance workers’ rights and strengthen advocacy efforts in Georgia and beyond. He also coordinates the Black Sea Euro-Atlantic Club, empowering young people through discussions, workshops and initiatives focused on active citizenship, sustainable development and Georgia’s European integration.

Beyond his professional work, Giorgi is passionate about making opportunities and information accessible to young people. Through his social media platforms, where he reaches nearly 100,000 followers, he creates educational content about European opportunities, travel, education and civic issues. His goal is to connect people with ideas, opportunities and one another while encouraging greater participation in building a more democratic and inclusive society.

What is Giorgi looking forward to at EFA26? 💫

“EFA26 represents a unique opportunity to become part of an international community committed to shaping Europe’s future. I look forward to engaging with professionals, policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs and young leaders from diverse backgrounds, learning from their experiences while sharing my own perspective from Georgia.

I am particularly excited to explore this year’s theme, How Europe Wins and gain deeper insights into democratic resilience, social innovation, sustainable development and the role of cooperation in addressing Europe’s challenges. I hope to leave Alpbach with new perspectives, meaningful connections and practical ideas that I can bring back to my work in human rights advocacy, strategic communications and youth engagement in Georgia.”

Meet Nutsa Dzandzava ✨

Nutsa Dzandzava is a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, studying Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies with a focus on democratic governance and civil society. She is a Lead Graduate Teaching Assistant at the university and is currently interning at the League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, an American nonprofit organisation, where she supports research and analysis on community-based voter engagement and best practices for localised, nonpartisan civic engagement programmes. She has experience in election monitoring, voter education, civic mobilisation, and grassroots activism.

What is Nutsa looking forward to at EFA26? 💫

“From my experience in grassroots mobilisation and policy advocacy, I understand the importance of coordination and resilience against democratic backsliding. My academic and professional career has centred on European integration, transatlantic relations, and democratic erosion. I see EFA 2026 as a chance both to share my own experience and to learn from people with different backgrounds—particularly those from the energy and technology sectors, whose perspectives I’ve always found refreshing and invigorating for my work.”

Meet Davit Shavdatuashvili ✨

Davit Shavdatuashvili is a Georgian political scientist and a graduate of the University of Tartu, specialising in comparative politics, authoritarianism, and digital governance. During his MA studies, he developed an original analytical framework to explain how digital tools are used for regime survival across different types of political settlements. His research has focused on digital governance, democratic resilience, and foreign information manipulation through roles at the e-Governance Academy (eGA) and ISFED. Growing up and working in Georgia has given him firsthand experience of how democratic institutions, elections, and the information space can come under sustained pressure. This experience has shaped both his academic interests and professional work, reinforcing his belief that resilient institutions are the answer to the question, “How Europe Wins?” Outside of his research, he is a co-founder, former guitarist, and founding member of the Georgian indie band Mechanical Rainbow.

“I see EFA26 as an opportunity to engage with people working to strengthen Europe’s resilience in an increasingly complex security environment. I am particularly interested in discussions of the latest approaches to responding to hybrid threats, influence operations, and the growing use of digital technologies as instruments of geopolitical competition.”

Meet Lela Javakhishvili ✨

Lela Javakhishvili is a researcher at the Center for Social Sciences, where she studies Europeanisation, media, and protest movements. She is also a PhD candidate at Tbilisi State University. As a qualified trainer, Lela works with young people on career development, active citizenship, and civic engagement. Her research interests also include gender equality and women’s rights. She actively participates in international scientific conferences and collaborative research projects, with a particular focus on democratic governance, digital transformation, and the rights of marginalised communities. Through both formal and non-formal education, Lela is committed to advancing evidence-based policymaking, strengthening civic participation, and promoting inclusive social development in Georgia and beyond.

What is Lela looking forward to at EFA26? 💫

“As a researcher, I see EFA26 as an opportunity to broaden my perspective by engaging with inspiring professionals from across Europe. I am particularly interested in exploring how policymakers, researchers, and civil society actors can work together to respond to democratic backsliding, polarisation, and the growing impact of digital technologies on our societies. I also look forward to exchanging ideas on meaningful youth engagement and evidence-based policymaking, drawing on both research and practical experience. For me, the greatest value of EFA26 lies in building lasting connections with people committed to strengthening democracy and returning home with new perspectives, collaborations, and practical insights that can enrich my research, teaching, and civic engagement.”

Meet Luka Khvareshia ✨

Luka Khvareshia is an MA graduate in International Relations from the University of Szeged, with a background in public law and EU policy. He has worked with Georgia’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. A graduate of Tbilisi State University’s Faculty of Law, he has also been actively involved in European civil society, most recently coordinating the Strengthening Democracy panel at the European Student Assembly in Strasbourg. His research focuses on Russian foreign policy and its impact on the European integration of post-Soviet countries.

What is Luka looking forward to at EFA26? 💫

“At EFA26, I hope to engage with practitioners and thinkers working at the intersection of European democratic resilience and enlargement policy. I want to explore this year’s theme of how Europe can win, where its strengths lie, and where its vulnerabilities run deep. Beyond the formal sessions, I am looking forward to the conversations that happen in between, where perspectives collide and ideas take shape. I hope to bring the voice of a country navigating intense geopolitical pressure while holding on to its European future, and to connect with others who are thinking seriously about Europe’s role as a stabilising force in its neighbourhood.”

Meet Marie Mdivani ✨

Marie Mdivani is a human rights lawyer and project manager specializing in property rights, digital governance, and women’s rights. She holds a Master’s Degree in Human Rights Studies from Lund University, Sweden, as well as a Master’s and Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Tbilisi State University. Marie has worked with the United Nations, civil society organizations, and public institutions, leading projects that promote human rights, legal empowerment, and inclusive digital transformation.

What is Marie looking forward to at EFA26? 💫

“I’m looking forward to engaging with people from different disciplines, exchanging ideas on democracy, digital transformation, and human rights, and exploring how innovative policies can help build more resilient societies. I’m especially excited about the conversations that continue beyond the panels, where unexpected collaborations often begin. And, of course, I’m looking forward to experiencing the beautiful Austrian Alps while meeting inspiring people from around the world.”
