მაისი, 2025 წელი, თბილისის პოლიტიკური სწავლების სკოლის სემინარი – ოცდახუთწლიანი დიდი ისტორიის, დიდი გამოცდილების შედეგი... ქვეყნის შიდა და საერთაშორისო პოლიტიკის ერთგვარი მემატიანეც და შენაკადიც!
ვსხედვართ სემინარზე, რომელიც შესაძლოა, ჩვენი სკოლის დიდი ისტორიის უკანასკნელი აქტიც იყოს, რომ საგანგებოდ, ხელოვნურად ჩაშალონ თავისუფლებისა და აზროვნების ნათელი წერტილები... ამ განცდითაც განსხვავებულია ეს სემინარი და ექსპერტებისა და თემების კონფიგურაციითაც... ყველა გამოსვლა და დისკუსია გაჯერებულია შექმნილი ვითარების მიზეზების ძიებითაც და გამოსავლებზე ინტენსიური ფიქრითაც!
რა ასაზრდოებს ავტორიტარიზმს – ეს არის თბილისის პოლიტიკური სწავლების სკოლის მაისის სემინარის მთავარი საფიქრალი – ჩვენ, ვინც სათანადო სიფხიზლე არ გამოვიჩინეთ, ვინც ოდესღაც რაღაცაზე დავხუჭეთ თვალი... ამ ნელთბილობასა და ნელნელობაში აღმოვაჩინეთ, როგორ აღმოცენდა ჩვენში ნამდვილი ჯოჯოხეთი, სადაც ერთი წამიც და, სუნთქვის საშუალებაც გაქრება და ლეშად იქცევა ყველაზე მთავარი...
სემინარზე ვსაუბრობთ იმ უჟანგბადობაზე, როგორც გაკვეთილზე, 70 წლის განმავლობაში რომ გამოვიარეთ, სადაც თურმე აკრძალვის და ცენზურის ზემოქმედების მთავარი ობიექტი იყო არა პოლიტიკური დისკუსია ან ეროტიკული სცენები, არამედ – ევროპული ყოფა-ცხოვრებიდან ნებისმიერი კადრი – სუპერმარკეტი იქნებოდა ეს, ტრანსპორტი, საუზმე ევროპულ ოჯახში თუ შვილისადმი დამოკიდებულება იქ... სადაც აკრძალული იყო ევროპული არაჟნის გემოს ცოდნა, რომ შედარების საშუალება არ გვქონოდა! რომ ბედნიერი შემთხვევის ძალით ევროპაში აღმოჩენილებს კატეგორიულად არ გვენახა ევროპული ქვეყნების უპრივილეგიო ლიდერები, ჩვეულებრივი მოქალაქეებივით რომ ცხოვრობდნენ...
და დღეს, ჩვენს სემინარზე, რომელსაც ჯერ კიდევ ესწრება რვა ევროპელი დიპლომატი, ისმის კითხვები – ნუთუ ევროპას წასვლა შეუძლია ჩვენგან?! ნუთუ არ გვეყოლება მთავარი მოკავშირე და მეგობარი, რომელიც ყოველთვის მიგვითითებს, ვიპოვოთ საკუთარი თავი, გავხდეთ ის, ვინც ვართ, დავუბრუნდეთ რეალობას, რადგან ფანტომები და ილუზიები იმათი იარაღია, ვისაც საზოგადოებაზე მანიპულაციის ბერკეტები აქვს უზურპირებული, ვინც მოდელირებული დღის წესრიგით წლებია, ნამდვილ, რეალურ დღის წესრიგს გვიცვლის, ვინც კომფორტისა და მშვიდობის ილუზიით საკუთარ თავს გვართმევს, რადგან თავისუფალი ადამიანის განადგურება მისსავე პიროვნებას შიზოფრენიულად ხლეჩს. ასეთ ადამიანი კი ადვილად სამართავია...
ლაიტმოტივად გასდევს სემინარს დამანგრეველი ვერდიქტი, რომ რეჟიმს ასაზრდოებს კონფორმიზმი, რომელიც თავიდან მოჩვენებითად სტაბილური ცხოვრების პირობებით ინერგება, მოგვიანებით კი – ბევრად ბრუტალური გზებით, რაც გვართმევს ადამიანად ყოფნის შესაძლებლობას, ე. ი., სივრცეს ინდივიდუალური თავისუფლებისთვის და ერთადერთ გამოსავლად გვთავაზობს მორჩილებას.
ასეთი მძიმე და, ამავე დროს, რაციონალური განწყობით ვესწრებით თბილისის პოლიტიკური სწავლების სკოლის ამ გამორჩეულ სემინარს – თავისუფლების, ალტერნატიული აზროვნების, მოვლენების კომპლექსურად აღქმის, რაციონალური კრიტიკისა და თვითკრიტიკის დიდ, ოცდახუთწლიან გამოცდილებას თავისი ანგარიშგასაწევი ექსპერტებისა და დიდი საერთაშორისო მეგობრების გამორჩეული პალიტრით და ამ ყველაფერს, ასობით ადამიანის საიმედო თავშესაფარს, დღეს ხელოვნურად უფერხებენ მომავალს...
დიახ, ვიღებთ პასუხისმგებლობას იმაზე, რომ დღეს ჩვენს სინდისზეა ათობით პოლიტიკური პატიმარი, ასობით ნაწამები და ნატანჯი მოქალაქე, ასობით უფუნქციოდ დარჩენილი პროფესიონალი, აუნაზღაურებლად უკანდახეული ჩვენი ქვეყანა და ჩვენი სკოლის, თბილისის პოლიტიკური სწავლების სკოლის, მომავალი! ეს პასუხისმგებლობა ჩვენი ნერვული სისტემის და სისხლის მიმოქცევის ხმად უერთდება საერთო პროტესტის ხმას!
სკოლის პროექტის იძულებით შეჩერება ვერ შეაჩერებს ასობით სკოლელის და მათ ორბიტაზე მყოფი დიდი საზოგადოების თავისუფლების სულისკვეთებას, რომელიც შექმნა სკოლის იდეამ, სკოლის ფასეულობებმა, ვერ დაშლის ადამიანთა იმ დიდ ერთობას, სკოლამ რომ შექმნა, ვერ დათრგუნავს სკოლელთა მზაობას, ბოლომდე, მტკიცედ იბრძოლონ ქვეყნის ნორმალურობისთვის და ევროატლანტიკური ვექტორისთვის, ვერ დაჯაბნის მისწრაფებას, მუდმივად ვსწავლობდეთ პიროვნებად ყოფნას!
დიახ, ვაღიარებთ, რომ ვასაზრდოებთ ავტორიტარიზმს, რადგან ოდესღაც სადღაც რაღაცაზე დავხუჭეთ თვალი! არაფერია ამ აღიარებაზე მწარე და ამ აღიარებაზე საიმედო!

May 2025 – Seminar of the Tbilisi School of Political Studies: The Outcome of a Twenty-Five-Year Legacy of Profound History and Experience… A chronicler and a tributary of both domestic and international political developments in the country!
We are gathered at a seminar that might well mark the final act in the long and meaningful history of our School – perhaps deliberately and artificially dismantled in an attempt to extinguish one of the last remaining beacons of freedom and thought. This very sentiment makes the seminar distinct – not only in its emotional resonance but also in the configuration of its experts and themes... Every presentation and discussion is permeated by an earnest search for the root causes of the current situation, accompanied by intense reflection on possible solutions!
The central concern of the Tbilisi School of Political Studies’ May seminar is a pressing and uncomfortable question: What sustains authoritarianism? It is a moment of reflection for those of us who failed to exercise adequate vigilance, who once chose to look away, even briefly, from troubling developments… In the slow drift of complacency and indifference, we have come to witness the emergence of a true hell within our midst – a condition in which, at any moment, even the breath of life may be extinguished, and what is most essential reduced to lifeless remains…
At the seminar, we reflect on the suffocating atmosphere we endured for seventy years – a lack of oxygen that now serves as a profound lesson. We came to understand that the primary target of prohibition and censorship was not political discourse or erotic scenes, but rather any glimpse into European everyday life. Whether it was a supermarket, public transportation, a family breakfast, or the nature of parent–child relationships – any image that conveyed ordinary European existence was deemed subversive… Even the taste of European sour cream was forbidden, lest we develop the capacity for comparison. Those of us who, by rare stroke of luck, found ourselves in Europe were explicitly forbidden from witnessing the unprivileged status of European leaders – leaders who lived like ordinary citizens.
And today, at our seminar – still attended by eight European diplomats – profound questions are being asked: Could Europe truly turn away from us? Might we lose our principal ally and friend – the one who has consistently encouraged us to rediscover ourselves, to become who we truly are, to return to reality? For phantoms and illusions are the tools of those who have usurped the levers of manipulation over society – those who, for years, have substituted a fabricated agenda for the genuine, lived one. These are the actors who, under the illusion of comfort and peace, gradually deprive us of our very selves. For to destroy a free individual is to fracture their personality into schizophrenia. And such a person, fragmented and disoriented, is easily governed…
Running as a leitmotif throughout the seminar is a devastating verdict: that the regime is nourished by conformism – initially implanted through the illusion of a stable life, and later enforced through far more brutal means. This progression gradually strips individuals of the very possibility of being human – that is, of inhabiting a space for personal freedom – and presents obedience as the only viable alternative.
With this somber, yet deeply rational mindset, we attend this exceptional seminar of the Tbilisi School of Political Studies – an institution that embodies a twenty-five-year legacy of freedom, alternative thinking, complex understanding of events, and a culture of reasoned critique and self-reflection. Enriched by a distinguished palette of authoritative experts and longstanding international friends, the School has long served as a reliable refuge for hundreds. And yet today, this very institution is being artificially denied its future…
Yes, we acknowledge our responsibility for the reality that today, dozens of political prisoners, hundreds of tortured and tormented citizens, and countless professionals left without purpose weigh on our collective conscience. We recognize the cost: a country set back without restitution, and the uncertain future of our own institution – the Tbilisi School of Political Studies. This responsibility now courses through our nervous systems and circulatory flow, merging with the collective voice of protest!
The forced suspension of the School’s project cannot extinguish the spirit of freedom shared by hundreds of alumni and the broader community drawn into its orbit – a spirit born of the School’s vision and values. It cannot dismantle the profound unity among individuals that the School has cultivated, nor suppress the unwavering readiness of its graduates to fight – steadfastly and to the end – for the country’s return to normalcy and its Euro-Atlantic orientation. It cannot overpower the enduring aspiration to continually learn what it means to be a person!
Yes, we acknowledge that we have, in part, sustained authoritarianism – because at some point, somewhere, we chose to look away. There is nothing more bitter – and nothing more hopeful – than this very admission!
