სილო დემონტაჟის საფრთხის წინაშეა!

თბილისის სილო განსაკუთრებულ ადგილს იკავებს ქალაქში შემორჩენილი მიტოვებული და უფუნქციოდ დარჩენილი ინდუსტრიული ნაგებობების სიაში.

ნავთლუღში მდებარე №5 წისქვილკომბინატი (სილო), ერთ-ერთი ყველაზე მასშტაბური და ავტომატიზებული ინდუსტრიული ობიექტი იყო. ამჟამად ეს მონუმენტური კომპლექსი კერძო მფლობელობაშია, რომელსაც მისი დანგრევა და ამ ადგილზე 11 მრავალბინიანი საცხოვრებელი კორპუსის მშენებლობა სურს.
სილო თბილისის ინდუსტრიული წარსულის ერთგვარი სიმბოლოა, რომლის დავიწყებაც ქალაქის ისტორიის დავიწყებას ნიშნავს. სილოს ადგილას, ამ ჟამად დაგეგმილი მრავალბინიანი საცხოვრებელი კომპლექსის მშენებლობა წაშლის ისტორიულ კვალს და შექმნის მორიგ ჩაკეტილ სივრცეს, რომელსაც არაფერი აქვს საერთო განვითარებასთან და მხოლოდ ერთეული მესაკუთრის მოგებას ემსახურება.
შენობის ისტორიული და არქიტექტურული ღირებულებიდან გამომდინარე, მნიშვნელოვანია შედგეს ღია პროფესიული და საზოგადოებრივი დისკუსია. აუცილებელია ჩატარდეს არქიტექტურული კონკურსი და პროფესიულ საზოგადოებას მიეცეს საშუალება წარადგინონ ადგილის საუკეთესო განვითარების ვერსიები.

The silo is under threat of demolition!
The Tbilisi Silo holds a distinct place among the city’s remaining abandoned industrial structures that are quiet, but still deeply present.
Located in Navtlughi, Mill Combine No. 5 (the silo) was once one of the largest and most automated industrial facilities in the city. Today, this monumental complex is privately owned, with plans to demolish it and replace it with eleven residential apartment blocks.
The silo stands as a symbol of Tbilisi’s industrial past. Losing it would mean losing a part of the city’s history. The proposed development risks erasing this trace and replacing it with another gated space, detached from its context and driven only by private interest.
Given its historical and architectural value, the future of the silo should be openly discussed. An architectural competition is essential, giving professionals the chance to propose thoughtful and meaningful alternatives for the site.

თბილისის არქიტექტურის ბიენალეს 2026 წლის გამოშვების თემაა: “სიცარიელის გეოგრაფია”

“სიცარიელის გეოგრაფია” იკვლევს სიცარიელეს არა როგორც უბრალო არყოფნას, არამედ როგორც სოციალურ, პოლიტიკურ და სივრცით პროცესს, რომელიც ჩნდება მაშინ, როდესაც სივრცესა და სიცოცხლეს შორის კავშირი ირღვევა.
პოსტსოციალისტურ სივრცეებში სიცარიელე ჩნდება ინდუსტრიალიზაციის, მიგრაციისა და ეკონომიკური ტრანსფორმაციების შედეგად, რაც იწვევს როგორც რეგიონების დაცლას, ისე ქალაქებში “ცარიელი” არქიტექტურის გაჩენას - შენობებს, რომლებიც სავსეა კაპიტალით, მაგრამ დაცლილია ადამიანებისგან.
“სიცარიელის გეოგრაფია” ასევე ეხება სიცარიელის მატერიალურ გამოხატვას არქიტექტურაში, სადაც ვერნაკულარულ პრაქტიკას თანდათან ანაცვლებს სტანდარტიზებული და კონტექსტგარეშე ფორმები. შედეგად, სივრცე ფორმით ინარჩუნებს არსებობას, მაგრამ კარგავს ადგილობრივ მნიშვნელობასა და ცოდნას. ამასთან ერთად ჩნდება კითხვა: როგორ შეიძლება ვერნაკულარული გამოცდილება იქცეს ამ სიცარიელის შემავსებელ რესურსად. საქართველოს მაგალითზე ცოდნის ქრობის პროცესი განსაკუთრებით თვალსაჩინოა სოფლებში და პერიფერიებში, იქ სადაც დემოგრაფიული, ეკონომიკური და ეკოლოგიური კრიზისები ქმნის დაცარიელებულ ლანდშაფტებს.
წლევანდელი ბიენალე, რომელიც 25 სექტემბერს გაიხსნება და ერთი კვირის განმავლობაში გაგრძელდება, სწორედ ამ პროცესების გააზრებას ისახავს მიზნად.

ამავდროულად,

საქართველოში და მის ფარგლებს გარეთ მიმდინარე მწვავე ვითარების გამო, ჩვენი ორგანიზაცია, ისევე როგორც სხვა მრავალი ორგანიზაცია საქართველოში, დგას მნიშვნელოვანი გამოწვევების წინაშე. ამ პირობებში გადავწყვიტეთ, რომ ბიენალე მაინც უნდა გაიმართოს - უფრო მცირე მასშტაბით, თუმცა იმავე კრიტიკული მნიშვნელობით.
წელს ვერ ვაცხადებთ ტრადიციულ ღია კონკურსს. ამის ნაცვლად, გვინდა გავხსნათ სივრცე უშუალო თანამშრომლობისთვის: ვიწვევთ არქიტექტორებს, მკვლევრებს, არტისტებსა და პრაქტიკოსებს, რომლებსაც აქვთ ინტერესი “სიცარიელის გეოგრაფიის” მიმართ და შეუძლიათ პროექტის განხორციელება საკუთარი რესურსებით. ჩვენ მზად ვართ განვიხილოთ თქვენი შემოთავაზებები და შეთანხმების შემთხვევაში შემოგთავაზოთ ბიენალეს ღონისძიებებში მონაწილეობა.
ეს მხოლოდ მონაწილეობა არ არის - ეს არის პოზიცია. თქვენი მონაწილეობა იქნება ამ სივრცის შევსება შინაარსით, კრიტიკით თუ წინააღმდეგობით. ის არა მხოლოდ გააძლიერებს ბიენალეს კონტექსტს, არამედ შექმნის ერთობლივი ფიქრისა და მოქმედების სივრცეს.

Tbilisi Architecture Biennial presents the theme of its 2026 edition: “Geography of Emptiness”

“Geography of Emptiness” explores emptiness as a social, political, and spatial process arising from a disrupted relationship between space and life.
In post-socialist contexts, emptiness comes from deindustrialisation, migration, and economic change. These forces lead to depopulated regions and “empty” urban architecture - buildings filled with capital but lacking people.
‘’Geography of Emptiness” also shows emptiness in architecture, as vernacular practices are replaced by standardised, contextless forms. Space remains, but loses its local meaning and knowledge. This raises the question of whether vernacular experience can help fill this emptiness. In Georgia, this erosion is clear in rural and peripheral areas, where demographic, economic, and ecological crises empty landscapes of life.
This year’s Biennial, which will open on 25 September and run for a week, aims to reflect on these processes.

At the same time,

Tbilisi Architecture Biennial, like many other organisations in Georgia, is facing significant challenges due to the current domestic situation and broader global conditions. Despite these, we will hold the Biennial on a smaller scale while preserving its critical importance.
This year, we are unable to announce the traditional open call. Instead, we invite architects, researchers, artists, and practitioners interested in ‘’Geography of Emptiness” to propose projects they can realise using their own resources. To express your interest, please send your proposal to [email protected] for review. If selected, you will be invited to join the Biennial programme and collaborate directly with us.
This is more than participation - it is a position. Your contribution will fill this space with content, critique, or resistance. It will strengthen the Biennial’s context and create a shared space for thought and action.

შემოგვიერთდით 2022 წლის ბიენალეს გამოშვების — „რა იქნება შემდეგ?“ — შემაჯამებელი გამოცემის პრეზენტაციაზე.
წიგნი ასახავს კონკრეტული წლის თემას — დროებითობა ურბანულ და სოციალურ ცხოვრებაში — და იკვლევს იმ პირობით რეალობას, რომელიც განსაზღვრავს ჩვენს გარემოს, ცხოვრების წესსა და არქიტექტურულ გადაწყვეტილებებს.

რა არის დროებითი და რამდენად ხშირად ხდება ეს დროებითი მუდმივი?

You are invited to the presentation of the Tbilisi Architecture Biennial book!

Join us for the launch of the publication that summarizes the 2022 edition of the Bienniial - "What’s Next?"

This book reflects on the theme of that year: temporality in urban and social life. It explores the conditional reality that shapes our environment, lifestyles, and architectural decisions.

What is temporary, and how often does the temporary become permanent? The 2022 edition of the Biennial focused on widely shared experiences in Georgia, including the lives of internally displaced persons, the pandemic reality, and urban processes unfolding in city peripheries.

The book examines the intersections of time, space, and the built environment—architecture created in a state of constant flux and anticipation. It seeks to understand the everyday environment not as a fixed given, but as a process that continually asks, “What’s next?”

| “Cloud Control: Julia Obleitner and Christina Leigh Geros on weather modification”, conversation by KoozArch founder Federica Zambeletti with practitioner and scholar Julia Obleitner and author, architect and researcher Christina Leigh Geros.

With its jaunty yet quixotic title, ‘The Weather is Nice, Let Panic!’ is a three-part project addressing weather modification, questioning humanity’s attempts to control something as ephemeral as the atmosphere. Shown at the Tbilisi Architecture Biennial, it tells the story of the former Tbilisi Observatory, highlighting its dual-role as weather station and defense shield. In this exchange, project member Julia Obleitner discusses with Christina Leigh Geros the ongoing history of attempts to master meteorological effects.
