Huge congratulations to Peter F. Skinner on receiving the Achievement Award from the Georgian Association in the USA!

Peter has been a true friend and supporter of Georgian culture for many years. Alongside his incredible work researching and promoting Georgian history internationally, he has also been a great friend to the Georgian Arts and Culture Center, helping us edit and prepare several symposium proceedings and publications dedicated to Georgian art, culture, and heritage. We are sincerely grateful for his kindness, generosity, and dedication to sharing Georgia’s story with the world. This recognition is so well deserved, and we are very happy to see Peter’s work celebrated in this way.

🇪🇺 Field Research in the Imereti region within the EU Black Sea Basin CBC Interreg NEXT program – BIOSUSTAIN Project

🔹As part of the BIOSUSTAIN project, supported by the EU Sea Basin Interreg NEXT Programme, the project’s research team, together with the Lead Expert Zurab Shevardnadze, visited the Imereti region to document traditional ecological knowledge and collect relevant information.

🔹The expedition included meetings with the local community, craftspeople, greenhouses, and nurseries across various municipalities in Imereti. The team observed and assessed the current situation on site.

🌿🌍 The research aims to document traditional ecological knowledge and gather information on both traditional plant varieties and species, as well as sustainable usage practices developed over centuries based on accumulated knowledge.

🔹The project is implemented by the Georgian Arts and Culture Center (Georgia) in cooperation with Varna University of Management (Bulgaria) and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης (Greece).

The crafting process is a performance with its own distinct aesthetic. The flow of hands, the behaviour of materials, the rhythm of tools; from clouds of stone dust to the spiralling of thread.

The 2026 Video Contest invites makers to capture this beauty and showcase the real stories behind their process. Submit thoughtful, visually engaging storytelling that brings your craft to life on screen.

▪️ Theme: Movement & Gesture – The Aesthetic & Performance of Craft Processes.

▪️ Submission Format: Original videos (2 to 5 minutes, mp4) highlighting techniques, sounds, textures, and the materiality of your practice.

▪️ Who can take part: Individuals, groups and organisations connected to crafts across Europe, including craftspeople, makers, designers, students, innovators, filmmakers, craft hubs, heritage institutions and other professional networks.

The selected winner will have their video showcased at the final Tracks4Crafts exhibition in Antwerp. Additionally, they will receive a tailored business model consultation with the University of Antwerp and serve as an official project ambassador, with travel and accommodation covered for three international events.

🔹 ხელოვნების საერთაშორისო ცენტრის გუნდი, პროექტის ექსპერტ ზურაბ შევარდნაძესთან ერთად, BIOSUSTAIN-ის მიზნების, კვლევის მეთოდოლოგიისა და სტრატეგიის გაცნობის, ასევე, დარგის სპეციალისტების ცოდნის და გამოცდილების გაზიარების მიზნით, ტრადიციული რეწვის სფეროს წარმომადგენლებს შეხვდა.

🌿 შეხვედრაზე განხილული იყო ტრადიციულ რეწვაში (ტექსტილი, ხე, მინანქარი და სხვ.) ბუნებრივი საღებავებისთვის გამოყენებული მცენარეების სახეობები და მათი დამუშავების ტრადიციული მეთოდები.

🌿🌍🇪🇺 As part of the BIOSUSTAIN project, supported by the EU Black Sea Basin CBC Interreg NEXT Programme, the team of the Georgian Arts and Culture Center, together with Lead Expert Zurab Shevardnadze, held a focus group meeting with representatives of the traditional crafts sector.

🔹The meeting outlined the goals, research methodology, and strategy of the BIOSUSTAIN project, focusing on the traditional knowledge surrounding the use of plants for natural dyeing in crafts such as textiles, wood, and enamel.

🔹Participants shared their experiences and discussed traditional methods, highlighting the importance of preserving and promoting local knowledge.

🌿 BIOSUSTAIN explores and promotes the use of local plant varieties in areas such as crafts, culinary practices, and cosmetics, while supporting community involvement and raising awareness of traditional ecological knowledge.

🟩 The General Assembly of the European Craft Alliance was held on 27–30 April 2026 in the beautiful city of Florence, Italy.

The Assembly was attended by the Director of the Georgian Arts and Culture Center, Maka Dvalishvili, who is also a member of the Alliance’s Board Member.

ორ-დღიანი ექსპედიცია ლაგოდეხის, თელავისა და ახმეტის მუნიციპალიტეტებში მოიცავდა შეხვედრებს ადგილობრივ მოსახლეობასთან, მენერგეებთან და ადგილობრივი ბიზნესის წარმოდგენლებთან.

As part of the BIOSUSTAIN project, supported by the EU Black Sea Basin Interreg NEXT Programme, the project’s research team, together with the Lead Expert Zurab Shevardnadze, visited the Kakheti region to document traditional ecological knowledge and collect relevant information.

The two-day expedition included meetings with the local community, agricultural markets, greenhouses, nurseries, and a wool processing enterprise across various municipalities of Kakheti, including Lagodekhi, Telavi, and Akhmeta. The team observed and assessed the current situation on site.

📝 The research aims to document traditional ecological knowledge and gather information on both traditional plant varieties and species, as well as sustainable usage practices developed over centuries based on accumulated knowledge.

📝 The study is conducted in accordance with a methodology developed within the project under the leadership of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece).

April 7–12, the European Crafts Days brought together more than

✨ over 1,000,000 participants across Europe

❤️💙 under the slogan — “With Heart and Soul.”

💫 🇪🇺 Across Europe, artisans invited the wider public to discover the skills, processes, and stories behind their craft.

🇬🇪 🇪🇺 Traditionally, this year, once again, Georgian designers and artisans joined the European Crafts Days with a special program.

💫 Throughout the week, the public had the opportunity to attend free masterclasses, explore both traditional and contemporary crafts, and gain insight into the working processes of artisans.

💫 The Georgian Arts and Culture Center (GACC) expresses its sincere gratitude to all host workshops, artisans, and designers for their collaboration, as well as for delivering such a diverse and engaging program and masterclasses.

💫🇪🇺 The European Crafts Days (Journées Européennes des Métiers d’Art, JEMA / EACD) is the largest Craft Sector event in Europe. It was founded in 2002 in France by the French Savoir-Faire Institute (Institut National des Métiers d’Art, INMA) Journées Européennes des Métiers d'Art
