MA in Caucasus Studies

Purpose of the Programme
This English-language MA reflects the requirements of societal cohesion as well as the labor market, and is aimed at building state institutions in a harmonious society. Taking into consideration the specificity of the Caucasus region, the programme will train qualified and competitive specialists in the following disciplines: Anthropology, Linguistics, Political Science, and International Relations. Specifically, the purpose of the Caucasus Studies MA is the following:
To train professionals and provide deep theoretical and practical knowledge in all fields of this interdisciplinary programme
To focus on teaching principles oriented toward frequently changing market requirements, allowing students to become competitive specialists according to rising international standards
To impart deep theoretical knowledge via discussions of case studies covering international and regional problems, and both governmental and non-governmental organizations
To cultivate in students a sense of responsibility and methods of self-development
To prepare students for employment or continued studies at a PhD level
To increase the number of local and international experts in Caucasus regional issues
To contribute to defining a new geopolitical role for the South Caucasus region in the contemporary world
Upon completion of the programme, the student will have
Explored the issues of the South Caucasus regional identity and the merits of regional cooperation
Investigated the historical role of the Caucasus in the world
Researched the role of the Caucasus in the Cold War and post-Cold War periods

Programme advantages
The programme has been refined and aims at providing students with valuable theoretical knowledge, supporting them in the development of practical skills in the field of research and practise. The quality of teaching and learning is ensured through experienced academic personnel in a rich library- and student-centred academic context.

Career Opportunities
A graduate of the programme may be employed in a governmental / commercial / nongovernmental / international organization, in a relevant parliamentary committee (Foreign Relations, Education, Science and Culture, Defence and Security, Human Rights, Civil Integration, etc.), the National Centre of Manuscripts, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education, the Office of the State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Reintegration, the Ministry of Defence, the National Security Council of Georgia, as well as in a historical museum, an archive centre, an institution of higher education, a research centre, etc.
The priority of the programme is to equip graduates with the expertise and practical experience that will allow them to be employed in organizations that need experts in post-Soviet states. A graduate may also continue education in a doctoral programme.

Admission
Candidates must:
Hold a BA or its equivalent diploma
Pass the A Type test of Unified National Exams for Masters (for Georgian citizens)
Pass the university internal exams in the specialty and in English
Those not required to take the English exam are as follows
Candidates who have an international English language certificate equivalent to a B2 level (TOEFL iBT, IELTS and FCE)
Candidates who have graduated from an educational programme (instruction language: English) during the last three years, whose GPA is at least 75 (out of 100) or 3 (out of 4)
