🥳 What a wonderful celebration it was! On 16 May, we celebrated our 30th anniversary with a festive gala dinner in the ballroom of the Radisson Iveria Blu Hotel Tbilisi. In addition to numerous IWA members, many friends and guests were in attendance and clearly enjoyed the gala evening.

🥂 We began the gala evening with a cocktail reception, accompanied by a classical quartet. At 7.30 pm sharp, the doors to the ballroom opened and the festive dinner featuring Georgian delicacies began. The founder of IWA Georgia, Nana Dvali, and the current president, Maria del Carmen Fischer, hosted the evening and provided an insight into the history and charitable work of IWAG.

💃 The programme was enlivened by the pupils of the Vakhtang Chabukiani Tbilisi Ballet School and the dancers of the Stylized Folk Theatre “Nabadi” with the Samaia Dance. The IWA Choir also ensured a great atmosphere with their lively songs. The official programme of the gala evening concluded with a birthday cake, which was ceremoniously cut. Finally, DJ Lana provided some really great beats and the gala guests danced until midnight.

👏 However, our gala dinner evening was not just about celebrating, dining and dancing. A silent auction was also held, the proceeds of which will go entirely to the IWA Georgia charity project. Many thanks to all the sponsors and artists who made the silent auction possible with their prizes and works of art. Our thanks also go to everyone who took part in the auction and made a bid.

💛 Finally, we mustn’t forget the sponsors of our gala and the organisers of IWA Georgia: you made this magnificent evening possible. For that, we say a heartfelt thank you!

✨ Supporting Children in Rustavi ✨

This May, IWAG is proud to support a children’s home in Rustavi together with Herzkorn-გულისმარცვალი during their social outreach visit to Georgia. ❤️

The children’s home currently cares for 18 children and teenagers between the ages of 8–14. During our visit, we spent time with the children, shared activities, and supported efforts to create a warmer and more welcoming environment for them.

One of the most meaningful parts of the project was the improvement of the outdoor garden area — helping create a safe space where the children can play, relax, and spend time together. Toys, books, games, sports equipment, plants, and other shared items were also donated to support the children’s daily lives and activities.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed, volunteered, and helped make this initiative possible. Small acts of kindness truly create lasting impact. 🌱✨

❤️

🎂What’s an essential part of any birthday? That’s right, a birthday song! But one wasn’t enough for us, which is why we organised a choir festival to mark our 30th birthday. And it was absolutely wonderful!

🎼 We were enchanted by the masterfully performed songs of the amateur choir ‘Gizo Zhordania Caucasian Art Circle’ from Tbilisi, the youth choir ‘Tutarchela’ from Rustavi and the IWA Georgia Choir.

🎤 Special guests included the singers Ia Trapaidze and Giorgi Gergauli, who supported the amateur choir with their solos. We were delighted to welcome Natia Todua as our guest of honour at the festival; she won the “Voice of Germany” competition in 2017 and now lives and works as a professional singer in Germany.

👏 The approximately 80 guests in attendance expressed their gratitude with thunderous applause for the magnificent performances produced by the two choir directors, Nana Kalandadze and Tamar Buadze.

👉 It was they who founded the IWA Georgia Choir 16 years ago – at the Goethe-Institut Tbilisi, where this unforgettable choir festival also took place.

‼️ Today we would like to introduce you to a current project by the Charity Project Committee (CPC) of IWA Georgia: we are supporting little Khataaf. The three-year-old boy is from Pankisi in northern Georgia and has suffered from serious health problems since birth. He was eventually diagnosed with a congenital immune deficiency.

🛌 Over the past three years, he has had to undergo several operations, and now he urgently needs a bone marrow transplant; fortunately, his sister is a potential donor. However, the bone marrow transplant, which will be carried out in a Turkish hospital, costs around 90,000 US dollars. His parents have launched a fundraising campaign.

💛 We, IWA Georgia, donated 7.000 GEL to pay for other treatments to stabilise his liver and prepare him for the bone marrow transplant.

👉 You can find out more about the little Khataaf and his family’s fundraising campaign following the link under the first comment.

This week we discovered a new art hotspot in Vake: the Anagi Art Foundation on Zurab Avalishvili Street. There, we enjoyed a wonderful guided tour of the various exhibitions and premises with art historian Ketevan Tsetskhladze and her colleagues.

We were particularly impressed by the permanent exhibition “Mappa Cartographica”, a unique private collection of historical maps and books. Equally worth seeing is the small house museum dedicated to the Georgian painter, graphic artist and theatre designer Sergo Kobuladze. Here you can admire his original workspace, as well as some of his artworks.

It was a truly fascinating visit that gave us a real sense of just how diverse and colourful modern Georgian art is. Many thanks to the Anagi team and the organisers.

For anyone who couldn’t make it: the Anagi Art Foundation’s exhibitions are open to the public and open every day except Mondays.

🥚 We enjoyed a particularly creative coffee morning at the Ukrainian House. A workshop on decorating Easter eggs (pysanky) – in the Ukrainian tradition – was held there especially for the members of IWA Georgia.

🎨 For most of the fifteen participants, it was their first time decorating an egg artistically with wax and paint. They were understandably a little daunted by the task. But thanks to the wonderful guidance of our hosts, any doubts quickly vanished and true works of art emerged.

🖍️ First, we drew a geometric pattern onto the egg with a pencil. We then traced the lines with hot wax. For this, we used a special tool called a kistka. We then dyed the eggs in various colours.

🕯 In between, we kept using the wax pen to cover the areas that were to retain their colour. Finally, we removed the layers of wax using a burning candle. Many were surprised at what a magnificently decorated Easter egg they ended up holding in their hands.

🌸 And along the way, we also learnt lots of interesting facts about the significance of pysanky and the customs associated with them. It was simply wonderful! A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this workshop.
