๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’š World Environment Day reminds us that the future of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique is deeply connected to the health of our environment.

From our coral reefs and seagrass beds to our forests, wetlands, and coastlines, nature provides us with food, livelihoods, protection from storms, and a place to call home. As we face the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, protecting these natural resources has never been more important.

Today, we celebrate the beauty of our tri-island state and renew our commitment to conservation, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. Every action, big or small can help create a healthier, more resilient future for generations to come.

Together, letโ€™s protect the environment that sustains us all. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿฆœ

On this International Day for Biological Diversity ๐ŸŒฟ, we celebrate the ecosystems, wildlife, and natural spaces that make the tri-island state of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique so unique.

At GAEA Conservation Network, our work focuses on protecting biodiversity through conservation, environmental education, research, habitat restoration, and community action. From wetlands and mangroves to forests, birds, and marine ecosystems, we are committed to safeguarding the natural resources that support our people, culture, and future.

Healthy ecosystems are essential in the fight against climate change: protecting coastlines, storing carbon, supporting livelihoods, and strengthening resilience across our islands. Together, we can continue creating a more sustainable future for generations to come. ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒŽ

After building their knowledge on Day 1, participants stepped fully into action, heading out to check the traps that were set the previous day.

The team successfully captured two mongoose, providing an important opportunity to apply what was learned about humane control methods. Under close guidance of participants took part in the safe and ethical use of air rifles to ensure a quick and humane dispatch, reinforcing the importance of precision, responsibility, and respect for wildlife.

The session continued with hands-on practice in trap preparation and deployment. Participants worked with bait; chicken and sardines, learning how scent and placement play a critical role in attracting mongoose. They then strategically set and reset traps across different locations within the Hartman Dove Sanctuary, considering habitat, movement patterns, and optimal positioning for effectiveness.

This immersive field experience brought together theory and practice, strengthening participantsโ€™ confidence and capacity to actively support invasive species control and the protection of Grenadaโ€™s unique biodiversity. ๐ŸŒฟ
