“The marines seized Pearls against minimal opposition,” writes Raines, but the Rangers captured Point Salines [only] after a hard fight. They also secured the True Blue campus of the medical school without injury to any of the students or faculty. At almost the same time, the Grenadian Army repulsed special operations forces sent to capture Richmond Hill Prison and Fort Rupert.

Between ninety and 110 people were killed during the three days of conflict, including twenty-four Cuban soldiers and nineteen members of the US armed forces. The result was the swift return of the 1974 constitution and free elections. As Eldon Kenworthy opined in a 1984 issue of World Policy Journal, the invasion was deliberately constructed by the US as a “production” to boost patriotism and confidence among Americans."

The 1983 invasion of Grenada raised questions about the legitimacy of American reactions to a communist presence on the island.

"Hurricane Janet was the most powerful tropical cyclone of the 1955 Atlantic hurricane season and one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record. Janet was also the first named storm to cause 1,000 deaths and the first Category 5 storm name to be retired. The eleventh tropical storm, ninth hurricane, and fourth major hurricane of the year,Janet formed from a tropical wave east of the Lesser Antilles on September 21. Moving westward across the Caribbean Sea, Janet fluctuated in intensity, but generally strengthened before reaching its peak intensity as a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 175 mph (282 km/h)." York House was built in the 1780s in an ornate Georgian Style of Architecture. It was originally built as the family residence for Jean de Ponthieu, after whom Deponthieu Street immediately West of the site, is named.

The front elevation was changed in 1786, and the entire building remodeled from 1802–1807, after it was bought in 1801 as the new House of Legislature, when it was named York House after the Duke of York, who presided at the opening ceremony in 1807.

At one time, York House was the largest public building in town, and was used for concerts, speech nights and grand balls. Visiting artists would perform there, and the St Joseph’s Convent Annual operettas were eagerly awaited. Special public meetings were held there, until the Anglican Church Hall, which was built about 1902 on the same street, became the preferred venue.

Did you know that colonial stamps like the one below were printed in Britain? To save time and money, printers utilized a master template known as a "Key Plate." This plate contained the border, imperial symbols, and the profile of the reigning British monarch, which were shared across various territories. A separate, smaller "Duty Plate" was then used to print the unique name of the colony and the stamp's denomination into the center.

By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many colonial stamps were standardised to ensure uniformity in international mail. Designs were tightly regulated to project the image and power of the British Empire, often incorporating local wildlife, regional landscapes, and required the effigy of the monarch.
