Following a request on a post from one of our followers, we attended this morning with some volunteers from the Stay City staff team. We cut the hedge back and made this path passable for wheelchair and pushchair users. We also spent a couple of hours tending to the infant graves too.

We enjoy leaving this place better than we found it. We also love our half time cuppa and chat! 😍

If you're reading this and live or work in or around the Fishergate/Fulford area and would like to support the cemetery, we are hoping to grow a group who can advocate for the cemetery, run our own projects and volunteering days and eventually host events celebrating this amazing green space!

Please get in touch if you'd like to get involved.

Join our neighbours at Danesmead Wood for a crafting activity day at the weekend!

Our next event is coming up soon

Join us at Danesmead Wood Sunday, 19 July from 1:30 - 3:30 pm.

We will have craft activities to try out, inspired by the lovely summer species in the wood:
- Make and decorate your own toadstool
- Create beautiful rubbings from tree bark
- Hanging baskets
- Make nature-inspired paper chains and crowns
- Bring along a jam jar to decorate using motifs from the wood

Fun for all ages. Β£2 is the suggested minimum donation per child

Proceeds will fund all the work we do to maintain and look after the wood.

See you there!

Friends of Fulford Cemetery will be out and about tomorrow (Monday) between 10am and 1pm. The team of volunteers did an amazing job edging some of the paths last month. Hopefully we can find some cool tasks under the shade of trees this month! Everyone welcome and all tools provided, plus a cuppa and biscuits. No need to register, but if you'd like to be added to the Friends of Fulford Cemetery mailing list then just drop the Eco team a line on [email protected] York Labour Fishergate Labour Sam Watling

Fulford Cemetery Friend Darran was out last week and tended to Arthur and Ethel's son, Second Lieutenant Arthur Douglas Mountstephen Merchant from Putney.

Arthur was an 18yr old pilot who had recently joined 68 Squadron at RFC Bramham Moor near Tadcaster when his Maurice Farman Shorthorn biplane crashed 3 miles from the airfield during his first solo flight, with Arthur succumbing in Fulford military hospital a week later on May 13th 1917.

He also tended to Ellen and John's son Corporal Cyril Ernest Butchers from Bishopworth in Bristol, a 21yr old air mechanic with 33 Squadron at RFC Bramham Moor. On the evening of May 13th 1916 Cyril was returning to base from a night out in York when his motorcycle crashed on Little Caterton lane near Tadcaster.

Thanks for all you do Darran ❀️

We moved a small oak tree last year and gave it a new home in the middle of this circular bed. Yesterday's volunteer group prepared the ground around the tree and we're looking at doing some planting soon!

Thanks to the team at Staycity Aparthotels York who do so much to help us. ❀️
