First cut off the year (I always like the "half way through" moment)

03/01/2026

Join us on Saturday 31st of January to celebrate the apple trees in Rowntree Park with our own annual joyful take on a traditional Wassail.

This is a fun, welcoming event for families - all about connecting with nature, the seasons and each other.

The event is split into parts - Children’s activities, morris dancing and the wassail parade and activities. We will be joined by Ramshackle Morris dancers and are excited to have them along.
Crafts, dancing, banging and shouting, toasting trees and more! Sound a bit crazy? May be. Fun? Most definitely!

This is a relaxed, outdoor event celebrating community, nature, and tradition. Wrap up warm, bring your curiosity, and come and join us.

👉 Book family places in advance to help us plan numbers.

Rougier Route Bishophill Residents Consultation Thursday, the 11th December at Middletons

City of York Council has recently circulated proposals for a bus priority
route over Ouse Bridge and along Rougier St, reducing city centre
delays for buses and creating a more pedestrian-friendly environment in
the heart of the city. The proposals will have a significant impact on through traffic and may affect traffic movements in Bishophill.
The Council has had an exhibition of the proposals in Middleton’s Hotel and in the Central Library, and are keen to encourage resident feedback on the scheme.
A meeting will be held in Middleton’s Hotel at 7pm on Thursday, the 11th
of December, when Council officers will explain the implications of the scheme for Bishophill and discuss potential mitigations for some of the concerns that have already been raised.
Bishophill residents are invited to attend and give their views.

Plenty of lovely free compost available in the community garden. Help yourselves - you made it! Only recommended for ornamental plants due to lack of input control. (Though we have taken out most of the avocado stones! 🥑)

Great day in the garden on Sunday. Big up to the community gardeners.Compost is good to go! Help yourself. Comes with the customary note that we don't have any quality control over what goes in to the compost (though what has come out this year looks great). Will be very good for growing flowers 🌻🌻
