🌟 Volunteers’ Week 2025 🌟

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who give their time to support children and young people across our communities.

In 2025 alone, The Island delivered over 1,600 hours of volunteering, including:

💜 1,150 hours of mentoring
🎁 231 hours of Christmas present wrapping

And we’re already making a difference this year, with our mentors contributing 534 hours of volunteer mentoring so far.

To every volunteer who has given their time, energy and support – thank you. Your dedication helps change lives and create brighter futures for the children and young people we work with every day.

💙 National Volunteers' Week | Meet Sue 💙

This National Volunteers' Week, we're shining a spotlight on the incredible people who make our work possible.

Meet Sue, one of our dedicated volunteers at The Island York. Through her time, care, and commitment, Sue helps create meaningful connections that can have a lasting impact on a young person's life.

The difference our volunteers make is best reflected in the words of the families we support:

💬 "The Mentor has been so good for my child and we both really appreciate you allowing us to join the mentoring programme and finding such a wonderful mentor for him."

💬 "Spending these 6 months with the Mentor seems to have given him such an increase in self-confidence. Being able to spend time with someone that wanted to spend time with him just because seems to have really helped him."

💬 "The Mentor is a lovely man and an absolute credit to your mentoring programme. I really can't put into words the gift he's given my son, and also me as his Mum."

💬 "I truly believe the Mentor has made a huge difference in my child's life and I am so grateful for everything you've all done. I see more of the person I know them to be; they are a lot calmer now than when this began."

As we begin National Volunteers' Week, we want to recognise and celebrate the incredible volunteers who give their time, care and support to children and young people across York.

A huge thank you to Clifton Park Hospital for getting involved and supporting The Island York in this year’s Dragon Boat Race! 🐉🚣

The support from local businesses and organisations plays a huge part in making events like this possible, helping to raise awareness and support an incredible cause within our community.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone on 12th July for another fantastic event hosted by York Rotary, UKYork Rotary UK – it’s set to be an amazing day! 👏

🚣‍♂️ We’re delighted to announce Clifton Park Hospital are proud sponsors of the York Dragon Boat Race 2026! 🐉

We’re also proud to confirm that Clifton Park Dragons will be returning to the water this year. Our crew will be a fantastic mix of colleagues from across the hospital, including consultants, theatre staff, housekeeping, ward teams, catering, radiology and more.

The race raises vital funds for our nominated charity The Island, as well as York Rotary, UK Charity Fund, and Survive York.
