If you have never watched the Mystery Plays before and are confused about the ‘where’ and ‘when', let us boil it down:
On Sunday 28 June and Sunday 5 July, there are three un-ticketed performance stations: the Refectory Gardens, King’s Square, and St Sampson’s Square. Every play will come to each of these three locations over the course of the day, so choose a station and the ten plays will come to you. You can stay there the whole day, or just stay to catch a few of the plays.
If you come to the Refectory Gardens for 10:30, the first play (the War in Heaven) will start at 10:30, followed by the others at half-hour intervals until the final play (Doomsday) at 3pm.
After each play is performed at one station it will move on to the next station. Each play is approximately 20 minutes long.
At King’s Square, the first play will start at 11:15, followed by the other plays at half-hour intervals until the final play at 3:45.
At St Sampson’s Square, the first play starts at 11:50, again followed by the other plays at half-hour intervals, until the final play at 4:20.
(If you’ve bought tickets for the Dean’s Park performances, you’ll have been told when you bought your ticket where to be and when, so you’re set. Those ones start at 12:30 and end about 5:30.)
You can also see the wagons moving along Goodramgate and Church Street as they travel between performances.
