It is with profound sadness that the International Organization for Medical Physics mourns the passing of Professor George Sgouros — a visionary in radiopharmaceutical therapy physics and dosimetry whose brilliance, determination, and generosity of spirit left an enduring mark on our field and on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

George believed in radiopharmaceutical therapy long before the world caught up. His development of the first three-dimensional internal dosimetry software, his pioneering work in alpha-particle therapy, and his decades of advocacy for patient-specific dosimetry helped transform RPT from a promising concept into a mainstream clinical reality. His ideas now live in every dosimetry-guided treatment, and in every patient who has benefited from this life-changing modality.

To those of us in the medical physics community, George was more than a pioneer. He was a devoted mentor who trained generations of scientists — many of whom now lead the field themselves — and a colleague who approached his work with quiet conviction and genuine care for the people around him. His two great passions, his family and his research, defined everything he did.

IOMP extends its deepest condolences to his wife Shirley, his children Theodore, Helen, and Marie, and to all who were touched by his life and service.

May he rest in peace.
