Supporting Hoping York Street Kitchen ❤️

This year, HAY is proud to be supporting Hoping Street, a local charity doing an incredible job supporting people experiencing homelessness and others in need across York.

Every Sunday, Hoping Street welcomes more than 100 people and serves over 300 meals, providing a warm meal alongside kindness, care and a safe, welcoming place to be.

Throughout this year, we’re raising funds for Hoping Street, and some of our members are also getting involved in a more hands-on way, including heading along on Sundays with food prepared by their hotel kitchens to serve those who need it.

Last weekend, Lionel from Middlethorpe Hotel went along to support the team, and to deliver an apple crumble made using apples freshly picked from the Middlethorpe garden. It was also a chance for Lionel to see first-hand the incredible work Hoping Street does each week to support people in need across our city.

Afterwards, Lionel said:
"It was great to be allowed to witness the amazing work of Hoping Street. The team were wonderfully kind, caring and dedicated."

And he isn't stopping there. In October, Lionel is taking on a personal challenge to cycle 100 miles from Mostar in Bosnia to Dubrovnik in Croatia, raising money for Hoping Street along the way. 🚴‍♂️

👣 Two months to go!

In just two months, we’ll be setting off on our Walk for Wellbeing in York 💙

On Sunday 11th October, hospitality colleagues from across York will come together for a 20km circular walk, starting and finishing at Hotel.

It’s a chance to step away from the day-to-day, get out into the fresh air, connect with colleagues and friends, and have those all-important conversations about our physical and mental wellbeing.

And while we walk, we’ll also be raising vital funds for Hospitality Action, helping support hospitality people and their families through challenging times.

Back in May, four members of the HAY team headed out to recce this year's Walk for Wellbeing York route. 🥾

Starting and finishing at the fantastic The Milner York, this year's 20km route takes in some of York's most beautiful and lesser-known scenery. We'll walk through the city, past York Minster and down the iconic Shambles, then follow the River Ouse to The Riverfront (the perfect spot to pick up a refreshment or take a little break) before looping back through Bishopthorpe and returning to The Milner.

The route is dog-friendly, packed with stunning views and offers a chance to experience a different side of York that many people never get to see.

Everyone walks the route at their own pace, this isn't a race (although you'll certainly know you've walked 20km by the end!). It's an opportunity to get outdoors, reconnect with others and walk together for a cause that supports people across our industry.

We'd love to see 100 people join us on Sunday 11th October. Entry is free, there's no minimum fundraising target, and together we're hoping to raise £8,000 for Hospitality Action. 🎯

It’s been a busy few weeks for HAY as we continue to connect, collaborate and champion hospitality across York. 🌟

Our Chair, Kai, and Treasurer, Lionel, attended the Tourism Advisory Board (TAB) meeting at . We’re always impressed by the fantastic YSJ campus, and it was a pleasure to catch up with colleagues and hear the latest updates from across the city’s tourism network.

They also attended the North Yorkshire Top 100 Business Awards, hosted at YSJ, and were delighted to see our friends at No1 Guest House York recognised with the Top Tourism Company award. Congratulations 🙌

Kai had an opportunity to inspire the next generation of hospitality professionals at the Year 10 Careers Event at Fulford School, sharing insights into the many opportunities and pathways available within our brilliant industry.

And we had a great turn out for our July monthly HAY meeting which was at the lovely Novotel.

With a busy summer period ahead, there’s plenty more to look forward to. Thank you to everyone who continues to support and be part of our growing hospitality community. 💙

HAY were delighted to attend and sponsor the York College Reach Awards a few weeks ago 🌟

We sponsored the Hospitality & Tourism Brilliance award, which was presented to Sol Jeffers in recognition of his outstanding contribution and achievements. Congratulations, Sol! 👏

We’d also like to extend our congratulations to Alfie Malloy from Delta Hotels by Marriott York, who was recognised as Apprentice of the Year 🙌

Two fantastic achievements and great examples of the talent and commitment within our hospitality industry.

The Reach Awards are a wonderful celebration of the hard work, excellence and ambition of York College students across a range of categories, including Apprenticeships, T Levels and Adult Learning. We’re proud to continue supporting the next generation of hospitality and tourism professionals in our city.

Walk for Wellbeing is back! ✨

We're delighted to be hosting a York route for the second year running as part of the national Walk for Wellbeing campaign.

This fantastic initiative raises vital funds and awareness for Lakes Hospitality Association , who support hospitality professionals across the UK and help those who make our industry so special.

This year's theme focuses on the power of reconnection, support and community as positive tools for wellbeing. So, it's time to dust off your walking shoes and join us for a walk that brings people together.

⚽️🏆 HAY Football Tournament 2026 🏆⚽️

What a fantastic day!

Nine hotel teams went head-to-head, all aiming to take the crown from two-time champions .delta 👀

After some brilliant football, came out on top, with taking second place 🥇🥈

A huge congratulations to all the teams who took part and brought plenty of energy, teamwork and friendly competition to the day.

We wrapped things up with pizza, drinks and plenty of post-match chat 🍕🍻

A big thank you to the team at for hosting us and looking after everyone so well, including accommodating our monthly HAY meeting alongside the tournament.
