Read about its conductors, four of whom were highly respected composers… How one of them nearly broke the society, so irascible was he that numbers dwindled to unsustainable levels… How the choir joined with thousands of other performers in the Royal Albert Hall and York's Museum Gardens… How during the First World War the choir defied hostility and took a principled stand against prejudice...

And especially, read about how the connection with a similar choir in York's twin city, Münster, began in 1993 and how it has grown since.

YMTA past, present and future featured in a presentation at a York Vikings Rotary meeting last night, where we had a great evening and a warm welcome.
Fantastic to hear about the longstanding links that York Rotary groups have with Rotary in Münster, with visits every 2 years.
The partnership between our cities, set up in 1957 (70th anniversary coming up!), offers opportunities for all York residents.

1957!! nearly 70 years ago the Burgermeister of our Twin Towns visited each other. 2027 will see anniversary visits of delegates again!

🇬🇧 Martin Rowley, Lord Mayor von Münsters ältester Partnerstadt York, war am Samstag, 28. März, zusammen mit seiner Ehefrau Elizabeth Rowley im Friedenssaal zu Gast. Oberbürgermeister Tilman Fuchs nahm die Gäste aus England gemeinsam mit seiner Ehefrau Claudia Fuchs im Historischen Rathaus in Empfang.

Anlass für den Besuch ist ein Austausch von zwei Partnerchören, die gemeinsame Aktivitäten für das kommende Jahr planen – denn dann feiert die Städtepartnerschaft zwischen Münster und York ihr 70-jähriges Bestehen.
