What a fantastic weekend we had at York Scout Activity Centre delivering Air Rifle training!
It was great to introduce some of our new instructors to the activity, while also welcoming back some familiar faces and experienced hands. Seeing everyone sharing their knowledge, enthusiasm, and skills made for a brilliant atmosphere throughout the weekend.
The weather may have been a little hit and miss, but thankfully our shooting was much more consistent — our sights were definitely on target! 😄
We're excited about the future and can't wait to continue building and growing these activities at York Scout Activity Centre, creating even more opportunities for young people and volunteers to get involved.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and helped make the weekend such a success. We look forward to seeing you on the range again soon!

A fantastic evening at York Scout Activity Centre with the young people from 2nd Acomb Explorers working alongside our volunteer team to help develop one of our exciting new activity areas.

We’re incredibly proud to involve young people in shaping our future plans, learning new skills, working as a team, and having fun while making a real difference to the centre.

We’re a hive of activity here at York Scout Activity Centre

We are delighted to welcome 300 members of Girlguiding North Yorkshire South to site for their 2026 Festival, and the centre is buzzing with activity.

From pioneering and climbing to backwoods cooking, there is something happening around every corner. They also have the Royal Navy on site delivering exciting team-building activities, alongside a wide range of other adventurous and engaging experiences.

It’s wonderful to see so many young people challenging themselves, learning new skills, building confidence, making new friendships, and enjoying the outdoors.

We hope everyone from Girlguiding North Yorkshire South has an amazing and memorable festival!

Something is missing at York Scout Activity Centre… could it be you?

We’re looking for friendly, practical people to help us keep the centre running, welcoming and ready for adventure.

We currently need help with:

Wardening
Activities instructors
Maintenance crew

Whether you can spare a few hours now and then, help regularly, or know someone who might be interested, we’d love to hear from you.

You don’t need to have all the answers - just enthusiasm, a willingness to get stuck in, and a love of helping young people enjoy amazing experiences outdoors.

Fulford Scouts had a brilliant time on Wednesday night. The Scouts really enjoyed being able to help with something that they and other young people will be able to use in the future.

They also loved getting to explore a different part of the site, seeing the big machines in action, and especially watching the tree felling. It was a great opportunity for them to learn, get involved, and feel part of something that will make a real difference.

Thank you again for having us. We’d really encourage other groups to get involved too - it’s a fantastic way for young people to give something back, learn new skills, and see the impact of their efforts first-hand.

What a brilliant day at York Scout Activity Centre!

A massive thank you to everyone who came to help get the activity side ready to use again. From clearing and tidying to grass cutting, there was a lot going on - along with plenty of laughter and some very welcome bacon sandwiches!

It’s amazing what can be achieved when people come together. Thank you to all our volunteers for helping bring this area back into action for young people to enjoy.

Pitch - up Sunday is this weekend the 17th of May. There is always lots to get involved with no skills required. We will be focusing on getting the shooting range up and running. That saying many hands make light work! If you can spare any time we would much appreciate it. It's not just about working it's about meeting new people, having a laugh and making a difference 😁
