SASH

SASH (Safe And Sound Homes) is a youth homelessness charity working across North Yorkshire.

We work across York, North Yorkshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire. All the accommodation we offer is in the home of fully trained and vetted volunteers, our ‘hosts’.

This week's SASH Star Supporters are our 2026 Great North Run runners!

We’d like to say a huge thank you to this fab group of people who ran last weekend in support of SASH. The GNR is no mean feat, especially when the sunshine sticks around all day!

Participation in these events is so essential for SASH to continue working with young people in our community experiencing homelessness. If you've caught the running bug or want to challenge yourself, register your interest for next year's GNR to [email protected] 💚

What can one safe place to stay mean?

For Andy, it meant having somewhere to go when he had nowhere else to turn.

After being referred to SASH, Andy was given an emergency Nightstop place with a host in Scarborough. Within just a few hours, he had a safe bed, a warm meal and someone there to help.

Today, Andy is a successful chef and owner of Junk Soul Smothered.

His story is one of many. For 30 years, SASH has been there for young people facing homelessness by providing a safe place to stay, support and the chance to rebuild lives.

That's why SASH Matters.

If you can, please donate to our SASH Matters appeal and help us make sure SASH is here for the next young person who needs us.

And please share Andy's story to help us reach more people.

What better way to kick off SASH's first Business Club event than a scavenger hunt on the River Ouse!

This week we brought together our Business Club members for a morning of coffee, boats and a bit of friendly competition.

It was great to meet some of our new Business Club members and spend the morning with some brilliant York businesses.

A huge thank you to City Cruises for putting on the scavenger hunt and to Plonkers for fuelled with coffee.

And if your business hasn't joined the SASH Business Club yet, now is a great time!

We have more events planned and we'd love to welcome more York businesses into the club.

Email [email protected] to find out more. 💚

3 WEEKS TO GO 🌙

There are only 3 weeks to go until the SASH Sleepout! We're looking to get 100 sleepers sleeping outside this October to raise money and awareness for SASH!

As you may have seen, this year is a big deal for us as SASH celebrates 30 years of preventing youth homelessness in and around York. So if you've been thinking about getting involved this year, now is your chance!

On Friday 16th October, we'll be swapping our beds for sleeping bags and spending the night at York Racecourse.

Grab your friends, family or colleagues and join us for a night of music, entertainment, hot drinks and plenty of SASH spirit.

Whether you've done a Sleepout before or this is your first one, we'd love to have you with us!

Our Project Manager, Nick, recently attended York College’s annual Wellbeing Strategy Expo on behalf of SASH.

The event gives new students the chance to find out more about the support available to them, both within College and from organisations across York.

Nick was there to chat to students about SASH and the support we offer to young people aged 16–25 who are facing homelessness.

It was great to be alongside lots of other local organisations and support services, helping students know what’s out there if they ever need it.

Thanks to York College for having us!

For 30 years, SASH has been working to prevent youth homelessness.

But what does that actually mean?

It means a safe place to stay when you have nowhere else to go.

It means someone opening their home.

It means someone listening.

It means support.

It means having the opportunity to look towards the future… and, it means a community believing that every young person deserves stability and a safe place to stay.

Today, we're proud to share SASH Matters – our 30th anniversary film.

If SASH matters to you, please donate to our SASH Matters appeal if you can.

Please also share the film, and help us reach more people who need to know we're here.
