It's Hospice Care Week, and we've been encouraging businesses in and around York to bring a pound to work. It's a small act that makes a big difference and helps ensure hospice care is there for local people when they need it. 💛

This week, we've been out and about visiting a few of the businesses taking part, and we even bumped into Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith!

Every month, we host a coffee morning at the Hospice for those in our community who have recently attended our Living With Grief programme. October's coffee morning took place yesterday during Hospice Care Week! 💛

It's a wonderful opportunity to come together over hot drinks and cakes, meet new people and catch up with familiar faces.

💛 It's Hospice Care Week! 💛

From 5 to 11 October, we're joining other hospices in celebrating the week, with this year's theme being 'Don't leave hospice care to chance'.

As we continue to shine a light on what hospice care involves, and the difference it makes to patients, families and carers in and around York, we're also stressing the importance of protecting this care in the future.

At St Leonard's, we rely on you, our community, to help us raise over 75% of what we need to run our services. As this is never guaranteed, it means hospice care in our area is left to chance every year.

With widespread funding struggles, many hospices across the UK are already cutting frontline services. St Leonard's is financially secure in the short to medium term but, as costs continue to rise year on year, we can't guarantee we'll stay that way without fairer Government funding.

🌟 We've had a blast at this year's Live for St Leonard's! 🌟

A special thank you to all the performers, The York BID and YorkMix for putting on another fantastic festival. Thank you also to everyone who came along, enjoyed incredible live music and donated to St Leonard's at the same time.

We're delighted to share that this year you've helped us raise over £5,500! This means that, since Live for St Leonard's started in 2021, the event has raised a phenomenal £31,700 to support local people. 💛

On behalf of current and future patients, families and carers, thank you for helping St Leonard's be here for people when they need us most. 🌻

On Sunday 4 October, 20 colleagues from Sandburn Hall and Tykes Restaurant and Griffon Forest Holiday Lodges will be tackling a 13.5-mile walk from Flaxton to St Leonard’s Hospice in memory of their much-loved colleague, Andy. 💛

💬 Sarah Balding, Sales and Marketing Director at Sandburn Hall, said: “Andy was such a big part of Sandburn Hall. He took over the Head Greenkeeper’s role from his dad and worked with us for 23 years, so he really was like family. He’s missed dearly by us all.

“It was Andy’s wish that we fundraise for St Leonard’s Hospice after the team there provided such exceptional care to him. We’ll be wearing our St Leonard’s T-shirts with immense pride on Sunday and thinking of Andy every step of the way.”

Thank you and good luck to you all! We can’t wait to greet you when you reach the Hospice at the finish line. 🌻

This Recycling Week, our very own team member and The Great British Sewing Bee winner, Anna, has shared with us some of her upcycling projects from on and off the show.

These include an outfit made of tablecloths from a St Leonard’s Hospice shop, one made from bedsheets, the Transformation Challenge look made from men's shirts and a beautiful gown made from pre-loved curtains. 🪡

Our charity shops are a great place to find sustainable, pre-loved fabric, garments and resources for your next project, whether you’re an amateur sewer or aspiring designer.

It's the International Week of Happiness at Work, and we've been asking colleagues across St Leonard's Hospice what's made them happy this week. 🌻

🧡 Sean and David, Retail Van Drivers: "Working with each other and like-minded, cheerful colleagues to keep our shops running and making money for the Hospice."
