The daisies were putting on an amazing display when one of our volunteers popped in today. What a welcome.

Daisy, Daisy

Daisies in pink,
Daisies in white,
Opening softly
To welcome the light.

Golden ones sparkle,
Bright as the sun,
Swaying together
As springtime is spun.

No grand declarations,
No need to impress—
Just petals and colour,
And quiet happiness. 🌼💕

A Day Among the Flowers

Beneath bright skies and arches green,
Our volunteers shared a lovely scene.
Supporting neighbours with smiles to spare,
Bringing friendship, warmth and care.

Among the blooms and spring light,
The gardens looked a wondrous sight.
With over two hundred visitors there,
A joyful spirit filled the air.

From welcome desks to cups of tea,
Community blossomed naturally.
A wonderful day from start to end,
With every volunteer a valued friend.

Friends of Huntington Cemetery — growing community, one smile at a time. 🌸🌿 supporting the open garden at Huntington Grange. Thank you to Jay and Darren for being fantastic hosts.

The volunteers braved the intermittent rain showers on Saturday to collect dead flowers, wash graves, remove bird droppings from the benches and give our beautiful Clematis another trellis to climb up.

Here you see Ben who is doing his Duke of Edinburgh Award under the patient and watchful eye of Chris, a member of our steering group. What a team!

On the subject of bird droppings. We have moved the bench that was near the rockery to beside the hedge as it seemed to always be covered in p**p. We are hoping visitors can visit the cemetery, take in the rockery and enjoy a view of the whole cemetery. Only time will tell if this is a more suitable location for the bench.

Our volunteers were hard at work in the cemetery again this morning. There was plenty of watering to do, along with weeding the rockery, collecting dead flowers, cutting back the front rockeries, and tidying the edging.

These tasks are part of our regular routine, week in and week out, but they’re essential in helping to keep the cemetery looking its very best.

If you happen to have a spare 10 minutes when you’re visiting, please feel free to pick up one of the watering cans and give the flowers a little drink. Every drop helps, and the flowers will certainly appreciate it! 🌸🙏

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers for their continued hard work and dedication.

The rhododendrons are putting on an amazing display — so much so, they’re attracting nature’s pollinators.

A fuzzy bee. 🐝

A fuzzy bee with busy feet
Came humming for a flower treat.
He found a rhododendron bright,
All pink and glowing in the light.

He tumbled in with happy buzz,
And pollen stuck all over fuzz.
The flower swayed, the bee took wing,
Both drunk on sweet and sunny spring.

From bloom to bloom he zipped all day,
In purple clouds along the way.
And every blossom seemed to cheer:
“Come back again, sweet bee, next year!”

What do washing-up bowls, bricks and parking have in common?

Quite a lot, when it comes to caring for our cemetery and the community that uses it 💚

During the warm weather, we put out a couple of washing-up bowls (with bricks in them) to provide drinking water for animals. We were very disappointed to find that these have now gone missing. They were placed there purely to support wildlife, so it’s disheartening that they are no longer there. If anyone has moved them or has any information, we would really appreciate them being returned.

When our first volunteer arrived this morning they noticed that the car park was especially busy, yet there was only one visitor in the cemetery. Parking by those not using the cemetery can make it difficult for visitors — particularly elderly members of our community and those with limited mobility — to access the cemetery and visit their loved ones.

We appreciate that parking is limited around the cemetery, but we kindly ask that spaces are kept for those visiting their loved ones.

Thank you for helping us look after this space with care and consideration 💚

THE WATER IS BACK ON

We have had a report that there is currently no water in the cemetery. This has been reported, and the Cemetery Committee are trying to sort it out. We have no expected date for the issue being sorted out, but we’re on it. Thank you x

The volunteers have been working hard - Taking the edge off

They turn up early, tools in hand,
A cheerful crew with a simple plan—
Tidy the edges, row by row,
Where grass gets cheeky and starts to grow.

It’s harder work than it first appears,
A few sore backs and a bit of care,
But line by line it all looks smart,
And that’s the bit that warms the heart.

They step back, smile, and quietly see:
A job well done, just as it should be.
