Born from the flames of true wild fires 🔥

On a recent visit to Portugal, a beautiful and mythical land the team knows well, we took an opportunity born from the tragedies of the land🌄

Every summer the hottest parts of Europe burn, a situation known all too well by many across the lands of Portugal (including us at SylvanKin).

Determined not to let the fires consume us, the people of the towns and villages work hard to protect the land alongside brave international efforts🇵🇹🤝🌎

After long days and nights of fighting wildfires, the land offers new opportunities for growth and resource✨

So we used the charcoal, born of wild flames to fuel the forge made from a scorched earth, and forged new tools and materials to rebuild⚒️

Our respect goes out to all the brave souls who tame the raging fires, many of whom we know well🍻

May this inspire you to go out and take the opportunities that await you🌄

As we upgrade the workshop many of you will already know that we are doing just about everything by hand, on-site with materials almost entirely from the woodland itself⚒️

We employ various traditional and modern techniques in each step, and this particular one is called yakisugi (焼杉) - selectively charring wood in order to utilise the charred properties in protecting our structure. 🪵

The charred faces are chosen and faced inwards in a triangle to form a chimney that creates a fire pillar, charring all the way up each board🔥

The charred faces will face the elements as the exterior walls of the workshop, and will need some finishing before being put in place🛖

How's that for a birthday candle🎂

Finally, the big day!

Seeing the kit handcrafted and handforged by us being used by such experienced people like .deane2 and is a true privilege ⚒️⚔️🍻

and the team are working hard to keep these awesome shows going🔥

It's always an honour to spend time with the crew and we can't wait to see more of the summer spectacles!🌄

In our last video we talked about the Royal Armouries Museum Mongolian Exhibit and our involvement in the kit for the skill at arms displays (starting July 22nd!)🔥
