Supports the local community by providing sport; & physical activity; educational; social & healthy lifestyle opportunities, in order to make a positive difference to our Community. `To provide sporting, educational, social and healthy lifestyle opportunities at affordable prices, whilst building awareness and the status of the football club within the community of North Yorkshire`
York City FC F
oundation share the vision of the entire Team York organisation. The fundamental aim of the Scheme has been to find ways of supporting the local community by providing opportunities for physical activity and enjoyment. It is informed by the premise that sporting activities encourage engagement with others and help build social networks. All these benefits help to support young people in their education and therefore open up routes to employment. Finally, they provide attractive alternatives for vulnerable young people who otherwise might fall into anti-social behaviour and criminal activity. The Scheme key priorities, which together contribute to achieving the vision are:
• to make available a range of quality sporting and recreational activities appropriate to the needs of the community
• to focus our work on enabling disaffected groups, including targeted young people, girls and disabled people
• to work in close partnership with the local community, York City FC and agencies from the public, private and voluntary sector. The Scheme has achieved much success in the last 5 years in particular, and is proud of the opportunities it has provided for the local community. The Scheme’s work has also been acknowledged by the winning of the Lord Mayor of York Shine Provider of the Year Award 2013, and by the volume of retained participants and growing capacity. Operationally, the Scheme has grown and developed alongside the club’s achievements, from Conference League to Football League in 2012, but has maintained it's prosperity in spite of the club's relegation in early 2016, and endeavours to reflect any key agendas in the area of sport, education, and health. Leadership and dedication of the scheme staff is essential to the success of the scheme, as they create the face of the Foundation within the community and therefore, become ambassadors for the Football Club. We work closely with the sports development units, the local County F.A’s, County Sports Partnership, County Sports Networks, School Sports Coordinators and teachers within schools in order to complement not only their relevant sports and active recreation strategies, but also the work of other providers.
