We had a great time crushing bracken in the Howardian Hills. The site in question is the remains of an old Roman encampment. To protect the archology we use crushing boards to manage the bracken rather than slashers which we use at our other sites. We were also joined by students at Ad Astra whose help was greatly appreciated!

Hello everyone,

It’s Friday again and the sun is out. Can you believe this Monday will be the 1st of June already!

Next week we will be back at Pitt Wood in the North Yorkshire Moors, and we are continuing our bracken control work. This will help reduce summer fire risk and improve biodiversity.

It is a bit of a longer drive than usual so we will be leaving Tang Hall Community Centre at 8:30 AM instead of the usual time and long trousers are advised to help ward of ticks.

If you'd like to come along please just drop an email to [email protected] and let us know which day you'd like to join.

We hope you all enjoy your weekend!🌿🌸☀️🌳🐞🐌

Have you ever seen a Yellow Wagtail?! 🤔🤔

Their scientific name is Motacilla flava and they are one of our summer visitors who migrate over from Africa! All that way with a wingspan of around 25cm and weighing between 16 and 22 grams.

You'll catch them in central and northern England between April and the start of October where they can be found in arable, streams and wetland areas.

If you want to learn more about this cool bird, you can find great information on the BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) and RSPB website

Happy Birding! 🐦🩵
